I have read darn near all shimmy posts I can find on the board. With this in mind I went to the dealer with my problem and expected the run around. Luckily my dealer's service department wants to help. First they did the usual balancing and rotation. Then they turned the rotors. This help take out 80% or more. I still had this problem though. I ignored it till it came back agian.

My 100% removal solution:

My Nissan dealer recently purchased a on the car rotor turner. All of the weight is on the car as it would sit. This allows the rotors to be turned to the car. This removed my 45-60 shimmy. I have had my car for over a year now and I am pushin 18k and now I have no shimmy.

Good info. I'm starting to think my rotors need turning, or replacing, as well. I've noticed recently that the shimmy is getting worse while braking. Damn nissan and their warping rotors. Why didn't they just ship the '04 Max with 13" vented/slotted/cross-drilled rotors, stainless steel lines and 4 piston calipers...and be done with this whole problem. Would save us all some money on Big Brake Kits as well. Wishful thinking. I had the same problem with my '02 SE, although no shimmy without braking. Hmm...

Did they charge you at the dealer? My car gets shimmy, especially when braking. I'm thinking of taking it to the dealer, but don't want to pay for it. It should be covered under warranty, right?

 

When did the shimmy start? Did it start when you first bought it or down the line. I am picking up an SE on Saturday and want to know if I can make sure it does not have the problem.

Any advice on how to make sure the car does not have any of the known problems?

Take the car for a good run. You will know if it shimmys or not. This is all we can do initially. After 20K if it shimmys then you are looking at rotor or balancing problems.
