top speed on 04 max 6sp

hey guys, has any one topped speed their max yet? I have 3,000 miles on my car, last nite I decided to open it up!!! it seemed that it did not want to go past 130mph, I only did it for about a mile @ that speed.
ROAD & TRACK MAGAZINE SPECIFY 140MPH. DO YOU GUYS THINK I SHOULDED WAITED A LITTLE LONGER? THERE WAS NO ONE AROUND AND I KNOW THE AREA(NO COPS AROUND) NO CARS EITHER....

It will go past 130 but it isn't much fun. The front end starts to lift (probably the back too) and the steering gets light. It doesn't feel right.
I travel between Lubbock and Dallas via Texas 380 and there is a stretch of 380 where you can air it out for several miles. Mine feels comfortable at +/- 125 for extended periods. Above that it feels like it's out of its element, not meant to be.

I've pushed as far as the speedometer goes. It will get to that speed (140mph) but that sh*t is kinda scary. I pushed it yesterday at around 120 and it handles like you're going 70.

I agree with the general consenseus here. At 125mph my SL is smooth sailing, but at 135mph it gets a little scary and I have to back down. But it still has more and perhaps better tires would let me experiance it.

I have to agree that 120 it handles like 70 after that the car handles like a big heavy car around turns and steering is sketchy,, the car is not setup for anything past 120-125 stock, i have tried it out several times.

Are you guys driving the same car I am? Because this "scary" feeling of losing control beyond 125 - 130 mph I haven't experienced. I've had the MAX up to 130 mph and it handled and drove just great! No feeling of "upward lift" or anything like that... Now I don't know how the SL will handle @ that speed, but the SE flew w/ no change in character! Only thing was I couldn't seem to push it too much further because the MAX does have an electronically controlled governor to keep people like us from pushing the envelope!

if you get caught doing 146mph in Virginia, you go straight to jail.

i once had $800 fine when i got caught doing 65mph in 35mph zone, they
said i was racing...but i wasn't...

I hope the "scary" feeling is only something to do with the tires or what not, I would love a 6th Gen but I do not want that "scary" feeling. Ive hit 130 with my 4th Gen several times and she feels like a dream at that speed.

ouch 800 bucks. yeah i'm surprised he didn't get anything more severe.

i think the "scary" feeling is directly related to the road you are on that particular time. depending on the road my 5th gen can feel dreamy or nitemarish at high speeds.

I've gotten caught once stretching my car out on the west side highway. That was like a $450 ticket for doing 95 in a 50. 5mph more and he would have taken my car and I would have gone to jail. So, $767 for doing 146 is not bad at all. I wonder if they took his car...

Ok Guys I Finally Did It!! I Just Got Back From Myrtle Beach Sc.... There Was A Long Stretch And Cars Doing Over 110mph So I Decided To Try Again I Hit 140mph @5,000 Rpm.
You Guys Are Right,it Does Not Feel Good!!! I Think Is The Tires,it Needs Z-rated For That Kind Of Speed.also On The Way Back I Decided To Take It Easy, I Did Not Pass 85 Mph And I Was Shocked That I Drove 500 Miles On A Tank Of Gas.

Do you have an SL? Because if you have an SE, it just must be your senses taking over (or fear of speed)... Refer to my previous post above. I don't know what you guys are feeling when you go above 125 - 130... The MAXs I've driven handled VERY WELL. I'll be honest... I haven't pushed my own MAX to the limit (and don't really plan to), but the 2 rentals I had handled the high speed just fine... What gives???

I don't know either cause your guys cars are way more refined than my 95. And we have a spot in the desert out here that's like the salt flat's and with no worry of getting in trouble I burryied my car. My speedo goes to one forty and has a stoper right past it. I hit the stoper and accelerated another 900 rpms. I hit the brakes and it hung at 140 for a while it was cool. Granted mine was on packed salt flats but it was not scarry at all. Just worried I was sand blasting my paint. But not at all. If your ever in new mexico hit up the white sands flats. Perfect for topping out you car. Hundreds of cars do it all the time with no accidents, tickets, or damage to vehicle. Saw a viper hit 180! It was nice

I had my stock '95 Maxima SE well over 220 kmh on the Coquihalla Highway in the Interior of British Columbia. Had it 3/4" over 220kmh, or about 145 mph, saw God twice and shut it down!

me and my friend iin his 1.8t were coming up the parkway on night from exit 130 to exit 160 and we burrned the road doing 140+ up all the way untill we got close to the toll booths and then we went through ez-pass and then got back up to 140 and continued all the way home.

i did have to buy new brakes after we had to slam on the brakes for our exit.

If this matters!!! I drove home from my high school prom in '94 with my moms '87 maxima doing 105mph two weeks after i got my license. I had 5 people in the car (including myself). If anyone remembers, the speedometer was digital. Everyone in the car wanted the meter to light up 1 0 0. That was crazy. I would've lost my license.
