Suspension

Ok, this will really show my knowledge. But what is the difference between Lowering Springs, and coilovers. I've read quite a bit on this, and some 350z Forums that coilovers make a tremendous difference in the handling. I have had my Max for a few days now, and because of the Torque sterr, and the fact that the car sits up somewhat high, the control is not what I would like it to be.

Like another of the readers, I emailed Tein, and asked them about the 2004 Max versions, and they said to keep checking their Web site for updates.

Are the Lowering springs and coilovers mutually exclusive in what they do, or will I be duplicating effect if I buy the lower springs now, and then the coilovers when they are available.

Lastly, how much of an effect do Sway bars have on the feeling of tightness in the max. I am coming from a 350 Track, so the max's suspension seems a little bit fluffy. Any recommendations on the best Front/back sway bars at this time.

Much Thx
Masshog

Well there are three catagories. There are springs, which are like what come on the car. A shorter spring is used to lower the car, and a standard strut is used to dampen the spring vibrations. Then there is a the sleave "coil over" which is just a adjustable spring. The bottom mount is on a threaded sleave that is adjustable up and down. A standard strut is used here too.

Then there is the true coilover. It is "one" piece so to speak. The dampening device is housed inside of the spring. The ride height is adjustable, and with most the dampeners are adjustable. This allows you to tune your suspension to your prefered setting. They make your suspension much more agressive then what the factory designed. There is a ride trade off. But with good tuning, you can minimize it.

masshog - At my age, I'm not much into undercarriage suspension changes, but have noticed several posters here in recent months talking about sway bars. They are available for the '04 Max, and those having put them on seem to feel they clearly improve the Maxima's behavior.

IIRC, the brand was Stillen, but am not positive of that.

You may wish to look back at threads with 'sway bar' in the title. They may have moved off the front page, but you can access many previous pages at the bottom of the page listing posts. Or perhaps one of the posters who installed the bars will help us out.

Let us know how your changes work out.

You guys Rule

Although you made some things clearer, you have opened up more options.
I guess what I need for my Max is an unlimited budget. ;-)
