Can the B pillar be removed?

So i have this rattle right behind my ear on some roads.. not all, but enough to drive me crazy.. I sounds like it is coming from the seatbelt shoulder height adjuster that attaches to the b pillar and has 3 height settings. Has anyone had any experience with trying to remove this? So i can maybe try to find what is causing the rattle??

I have heard the same rattle (and of course the dealer cannot hear it...). I think it is something with the retentioner because it varies not only on the road surface (bumps, etc), but also sometimes how the tension on the belt... Anyone else hear this? Was your dealer able to reproduce the problem? I have so many rattles, it's crazy:

1. Seat belt rattle (this problem).
2. Dash rattle (was only on passenger side, now also on drivers side and both are more frequent)
3. Rattle from somewhere up front - usually happens when it's cool outside (less than 70) - Service manager could duplicate it but the tech could not (end results - still ratles)
4. When no one is in the passenger seat, the seat vibrates (about 1/8"-1/4" at the top) and makes a very annoying intermittant noise/rattle).
5. When I turn the steering wheel (and ONLY when the blinker is enganged), there are various 'clicks' along the way which I could have sworn were not there a month ago. What gives? Has part of the blinker mechanism become detached from inside the sterring column at that is what is 'clicking'?
6. Sometimes the seat back 'gives' a bit
7. Sometimes the driver seat slides a bit when cornering - unfortunately I've adjusted the seat and now it doesn't do it so the dealer won't be able to replicate it...

Sorry if I hijacked your thread.

I feel your pain. I'm ready to trade this car in for a 04 TL. I glad it's a lease, 30 more months and counting. I love the engine of my max but the rattles and shimmies are the worst. Either I won't buy a first year car or this will be my last Nissan. I sent them a letter about all the problems and how I'm dissappointed with the $30K+ car.

One question, how did you adjust the driver seat the shifts when cornering. It drives me nuts. I tried to put the seat all the way down, that didn't work. Tried all different ways but continues to shift badly. Also getting new rotors (they've been cut already). Getting new struts (hear popping sounds). Now I'm hearing rattles from the the seat belt harness and rattles from the back deck.

I've been reading that people are putting alot of money into the car but the car really isn't worth it. I was a proud owner of many Nissans and this is by far the worst.

Thereal411 - This B pillar noise has been reported here somewhere recently. IIRC, the poster finally had to open up the pillar and wrap something around some springs or something asociated with the seat belt adjustment mechanism to completely fix the problem.

Maxidriver - Be cautious about the TL. My son sank thirty-some grand into a new one, then found out the TL is having widespread tranny problems. He is afraid his 'resale' value is already damaged.

I agree with everyone here that even a small rattle can take so much of the fun from driving. When I hear a rattle, I pull over, have my wife drive, and go thru any contortion or disassembly necessary to find it. I absolutely will not tolerate a rattle.

The ajustable seat belt tensioner buzz/rattle is common across all Nissan products. Don't expect a fix anytime soon.

I just adjusted the seat around a bit - raised the leg portion, reclined, slid it up further... i've actually moved it around quite a bit since then (unfortunately I don't remember exactly how it was, although you just reminded me of something...)

How far is your seat back? When mine was the worst, my seat was all the way back (not reclined, but "moved" towards the back as far as it would go). Perhaps this moved the center of gravity of the entire seat too far towards the back for the seat mounts, and as a result they started to loosten up? I'm a fairly heavy guy, probably 235 or so, so that might also have worsened the situation too.

Thoughts?

Yes, my seat is all the way back. I'll try to move it up a bit and play with the hight some more. Surprised a TSB haven't come out. FYI, had the same problem in my 01 Pathfinder but I didn't have power seats, the Max does.

Before you condemn the Max for rattles you had better check the TL forum. Many people are have rattle problems with the TL along with other issues.....remember the grass is not always greener

Thereal411 - Like you, I scanned back all seven pages I can access, and was surprised to see just how fast things move on this board. I saw things from three weeks ago that I would have sworn were posted just last week.

The seven pages we are allowed to read don't reach back quite a month, so the poster who disassembled his B pillar and, IIRC, wrapped rubber or something around the seat belp clips/springs/ etc (whatever was clinking against the pillar frame) must have posted a month or so ago.

If he logs on and sees your question, I feel sure he will respond. . . But then I saw where you originally asked this question back on May 19th, and he never saw that thread, and it just died.

I have seen others with this same clinking from the B pillar. Maybe one of them will bite the bullet, fix the problem, and fill us in.

Sorry I can't be more help.

You can go back more then 7 pages....change from "last 30 days" to "the beginning" this is at the bottom of the page (lower right)
