Window tinting
Window tinting
I just ordered an Onyx over black leather Maxima. I can see that summer heat could be a problem.
What have people here paid to get their side and rear windows tinted?
Also, what is a good percentage tint?

I paid about $230 for 35% front, 5% (limo dark) rears. I actually had to pay an extra $60 (already included in my stated total) for them to strip the original tint that the dealership flubbed up. And as for what's allowed...this is dictated by each state. Here are a few sites to look up window tinting laws for your particular state:

The 3rd link was last updated on 2 June 2004 and is pretty thorough. Look thru and see what applies to your state...
Hope this helps...

I got mine 25% all the way around, and find it just about right for a dark car with black leather. I had my previous car tinted 15%, and really it was a bit dangerous in night driving.

I also always use one of those folding window shades when parked for any period of time, and together with tint, it does a pretty good job of keeping the heat down (and saving my dash from cracking).
I was wishing Nissan had given us SE owners the option of the 4 door automatic rear folding blind.

Craig - just visited your site. You Max looks great !
You're right about the colour combo with 25% tint.
Mine is gonig back to the tinters tonorrow morning to have the tint on the front passenger door replaced. There's bubbles (or what the tinter called contamination) that are still there after 3 weeks. He said that it was contamination and it was within acceptable specs/limits. I've never had contamination on any of my previous tinted cars, so i asked them to re-do it. They were good about it and readily agreed.
