Quarter Mile Times

Just curious what kind of times/speeds people have gotten and with what types of modifications.

For those with the 5-speed autos, how are you running them? Do you leave it in regular drive and just floor it? Or pop it into "auto-manual" mode and just gun it and let the computer change gears at red line?

Anyone try it both ways and compare times?

In tiptronic mode, it upshifts for you as well? I thought it only downshifted for you, or atleast thats how it is in my dads 04 max, but i havent redlined in it so i dunno.

best time i ran is a 14.2 bone stock in the 1/4... i put the car in tiptronic and let it shift by itself..

ga2000, when you put it in tiptronic "mode", does it shift before, right @, or just beyond red-line? I haven't tried it, nor do I want to...just because I pretty much baby my car... Just curious as to how the computer was programmed to think...

Thanks for the link; I hadn't seen it.

The tiptronic shifts right before the red line. I'm going to the track next weekend and will try it both ways. I'm assuming letting the computer shift it for you in tiptronic mode will be the fastest. ga2000 had a pretty good time doing that.

Have you tried leaving it in auto mode? And try "shifting" your self? It would be interesting to see the difference. I know my elcipse is actually slower in the "sportronic" mode then in the standard auto.

Thing is, the MAX's tiptronic has a slight delay in response, so it kinda defeats the purpose...

yeah, that's what I mean. That is how the eclipse is too. It takes a second because you shifting is a switch that activates a relay, that activates a solenoid. It would be interesting to see the numbers for compairison.

Just remember when launching in any mode, I like to hold the gas at around 2200rpm and then do a hesitation stomp to decrease the wheel spin. If you romp it off the line, you'll spin then well into 2nd gear, even with 20's.

Floor it and then let up a little and then floor it again?

Don't stomp it off the line, just accelerate moderately for a second, so you don't have wheel spin and then mash it to the floor.
