Nothing officially released, just the rumours about a 2005 AWD. Anyway, I don't think the 05 Max will be available before late fall, so we'll have to wait and see

There are some discussions on this forum

Go to the Nissan Japanese website, and go to the car lineup.
http://www.nissan.co.jp/CARLINEUP/

There is their big stately car (Nissan President), which doesn't concern us, as it is not available stateside.

The Cima is our Infiniti Q45... Gloria = M45... Skyline = G35... Bluebird Sylphy = Sentra

Primera = Iunno... and lastly there's the Teana, which looks suspiciously like the Altima / Maxima. Yes, it is available with AwD (And CVT!) but not with a 6-cylinder engine, just the Qr25DE.

This leads me to think that, yes, there are some problems with cramming AWD underneath a car on a V6 FF-L platform, and that is why the 6th Gen Max didn't debut with AWD.

But I think an AWD option would do a lot to distance the Maxima from the Altima, and I'd probably sell most of my posessions to own one, too.

You're right, the Maxima for the Australian market is just like the Japanese Teana, here it is

More info here: http://www.nissan.com.au/maxima

I don't think it says anything about an AWD though.

Amen! Same here, buddy

Word on this board is generally along the line that the Smyrna assembly line will convert during the first two weeks of August, with '05 Maximas reaching the dealers in September.

Traditionally, Nissan changes very little the second year of a generation. This goes way back. For instance, the only change the second year of the second generation was a high-mounted brake light (mandated by law) and an adjustment in the sunroof mechanism.

Knowing nothing, I will be very surprised if Nissan gives us an AWD Maxima until the '06 model year. In fact, we may have no changes for '05 other than fifteen more horsepower (leapfrog the TL again), and maybe a slight tinker with the front and/or rear deco (light frames, grille, etc).

Of course, it is almost mandatory to add a color or two. As two (coral sand and smoke) were added February 6th of this year, I would guess Nissan might add only one; some shade of (maybe) green and drop the champagne mist.

I would bet something will leak out within the next month, as the assembly line will surely be converted no later than early August.

Wow - look at that rear DVD player for the Australian Max (or Japanese Teana).

Anyone have a part number? This should fit the North American Max, right?

Am I seeing things? That dvd unit looks like every other roof-mount unit that I've seen here in the states. For a much cleaner look, IMHO, I'd do screens in the headrests.
