Tornado for Maxima?

Has anyone ever tried one of those Tornado gadgets on their intake? I was watching one of their infomercials and noticed that they had a list showing a '97 with an increase of 15hp with one installed. I forgot the MPG savings, but they were impressive.

My co-worker said he put one in his Tahoe and his Silverado. He said you can tell the difference in the car performance with one installed. Do you guys know anything about them? Would you recommend one?

Just thought I'd ask before I shell out 69 bucks for one....

Okay....step away from your credit card now mister !

Every review i've ever read on those things has proved them to have pretty well zero effect on performance or gas mileage.

It would be a waste of your hard earned cash.

This thing would help you increase performance at about the same level as a placebo would for viagra.

STOP, NO WAY, HELL NO. I tried one on my old Buick (new engine) and right away i got the engine service light. It popped on whenever coasting or idling. I followed like it said to reset the battery for the computer. It made it stall when idling/stopping at red lights. My car was never the same.
I had to replace the (MAP?) sensor. It totally screwed up my O2 system.
I returned it not only losing $7 shipping, but the shop costs and quality of my car.

Please don't abuse you Max with one.

Pretty much what I thought the comments would be. I was wondering how such a small metal peice of crap looking thing would make such a big change in my vehicle. I couldn't believe that by just making the air turn like a tornado that my car would actually work with out some kind of problems.

Thanks guys! rmurdoch, put your bridge up! I already bought one.

Send the money to me and I'll send you back $30. Now you're only out $39 instead of $69 and we both win. ie. waste of money!

I would think that these defy the conservation of energy. You've got an airflow at a certain speed. It spins this thing and this thing's spinning is in turn supposed to spin fast enough to actually project MORE air out the back than otherwise would have come? This would require it to suck more air in the front, thus basically its spinnnig freely, oblivious to an energy source. It would spin itself into oblivion and be a free source of energy if you could harness it!

I'm not an engineer (I think we have some out there so chime in...), but I think the concept is supposed to be like a turbine such as a jet engine.

Problem is you need something other than the perpetual airflow to power it. As the previous poster said (a little differently) it cannot amplify or accelerate the airflow on its own without additional energy being contributed or harnessed.

they don't move it just has slanted fins, making the air swirl to enter your engine, supposedly speeding the intake.

"I already bought one" return it.

I had one one my s-10, it was completely worthless in my oppinion, because I saw no gains at all, so my advice to you is to not waste your money, save it for something that has proven to give better performance(exhaust, headers, intake, chip, etc.)

the design of the tornado sounds good in the design room but in turn is crap. It's many purpose is to take the income air which is a turbulent flow (it's all over the place like shooting water into a bottle at full pressure) and turn it into a lamanar flow (free flowing air, which in turn is similar to a tornado) This air will have less restictions on the sidewalls and flow easier into the throttle body. It technically doesn't take more air in, it makes the existing air "smoother" as it enters the engine so in turn, some more air flow will occur. (MINIMUAL) I hope I didn't lose anyone in my explanation. SO WHY DOESN'T THIS DAMN THING WORK?
