Welcome to the board. I'm a newbie myself here actually. I just bought my 04 SE last Tuesday and loving it. I didn't go with the SL due to the 17's and wood trim. Good luck with it, you'll love her.

Welcome to you new '04 Maxima owners. Both of you are really smokin'! The more Maxima fans we have on this board, the more chance someone will be able to help with any problem that may arise.

Keep us informed with how things go.

Caveat: When cruising down the boulevard, try not to smile too widely; your ears may fall into your mouth.

It goes to show that (if I am not mistaken the GS400 has a 4.0L V8) that the MAX has a lot of power and performance for someone to go from a V8 RWD to a V6 FWD.

Welcome!! You've got some pretty awesome rides there
As a new Max owner myself (car's 2 weeks old), I can attest -- you've made a great choice!

Man I love that smoke color. Congrats. If that color was out when I got mine I would have gone with smoke. Smoke with 19' gunmetal wheels with a polished lip

Hey thanks ppl! Making me feel at home already To be very honest, i have not even stepped on the throttle yet...just driving very cautious...since i want to make sure we break the engine in good BTW, this car replaced our bimmer! And i am very impressed. We sold our 2001 525i. I was surprised when i sat in this car at the dealership. It had all the features our bimmer did...including the heated wheel. I liked our bimmer for the handling, but i like the maxima for the overall bang for your buck.

I have not even thought about modding yet, as this will be mainly her car to drive.

First thoughts:
When i did drive it on the highway i noticed it feels very fishtailish. I did a little swerve and the car rolled a lot. I am gonna check the tire pressure tonite. Actually i think the monitor thing tells us in the dash, but i havent even learned how to use it yet

The seats are very comfortable. They feel the same as our gs4. I do feel like im siiting a little higher though than in the other car. I do like the clear view of the road ahead though.

Really like the auto folding outside mirrors. I was playing with that for awhile! heehehe....

Power seems very smooth. I am itching to step on it sooooo bad. But i wont.

I am gonna look at the boards here over the next month...and see what others have done to their car. then i will ask questions....dont wanna ask redundant questions ya know?

And i do know windows are gonna get tinted first thing..cuz its hella hot outside!

IDK about the 17s you got on the SL, but on the SE anything below 36PSI seems a litle loose. But it tightens up quickly... This could also be the larger sidewalls then you are used to. Lastly it is the softer suspension and I believe weaker RSB than the SE.

For aftermarket parts, go to the "sponsors" section of this site, and you'll see links to various sites...
Southwest Auto Works
custommaxima.com
Stillen
you can find stuff on ebay too, especially if you want an aftermarket spoiler not like the factory one (find the auction for the painted spoiler, good deal)

I got tint first, then the spoiler... then a custom sub enclosure and a CD changer with mp3 capability in the trunk, but replacing that now with an aftermarket stereo and Sirius satellite. Out of money for now Next prob will be the rear sway bar, then hopefully the exhaust, or lowering kit when shocks come out

Koreanpers - Love the color!....but then I am kind of biased having just bought an 04 Smoke SE myself....:>) Welcome to the "smokin'" club...where we "smoke" all hondas in our rear view mirrors!

Make sure to you your Smokin' tinted for a real awesome look!

(Got mine rustproofed this morning, and it is now bleeding the light rust-proofing oil like a stuck pig, all over the paint and road! (bio-degradable and apparently environmentally friendly, and apparently doesn't hurt the paint...))

Also, was at the license bureau this morning ordering my new custom plate - all the obvious ones were taken such as "Maxima", "Max", etc., but did end up with "MAX I AM" - a little play on words....will post a pic once I have it...

Excellent!

I didn't check if it is available here in New York, but an intersting plate I thought of is AMIXAM.

No it's not just MAXIMA backwards, but to my knowledge, MAXIMA is the only car model name that reads entirely as correct letters SPELLED BACKWARDS and in a mirror - i.e. every letter in the name is vertically symmetrical.

I considered a custom name plate. With my Onyx Max I'm ordering a black DARE plate with white and red letters. Matches perfectly, especially compared to the white yellow and blue PA plates.

I envy all you Smoke guys... though I'm quite content with my black. Anyhoo, welcome to the club Koreanpers. Didn't realize there was a Korean population in Minneapolis. Hope you enjoy your SL as much as I do my SE.

Hey thanks everyone for the comments although some sad news... someone scratched the *&^&*^% out of the trunk its about 5 inches long...basically the width of a key...rite below the 3.5 sl emblem... and we havent even got our plates yet! o well, it goes to the body shop next week.

we are getting it tinted this weekend its so dayem hot in there..w/o the tint.

anyone know how long till i can really test the engine on this beast? i press the throttle down a little, and the car really moves. i am wanting to test it against our other car...to see how much faster the lexus is

thanks for the websites to look for custom parts. my gf hates the front grill...so i am trying to decide which one to get...

and yep, there is a lot of adopted koreans here in mpls..

Sorry to hear about the scratch. I've had some problems with my Maxima as well (this is my second 2004 Maxima). I took it easy for the first 1500 miles before I installed an intake and let her rip!

if you dont mind me asking , what were some of your probs on the first one?

so far, my gf is not happy w/ the shift from 1st to 2nd. it is a little rough if you are light on the throttle. i noticed this too...so i just step on it

also, the brakes have a little shimmy feel. i think we will talk to the dealer about that.

The problems on my first Maxima were numerous. It's all on the first page of my cardomain. The link is below.
