Problems with '04?
Hello again everyone, just wondering if there are any common problems with the '04 Maxima's? I had an '02 Maxima, totaled it and bought a 350Z. I love the Z but I may be going to graduate school in the fall and could use a bigger car. I was looking at the STi, but that's another story. So are there any chronic problems with the '04 Maxima?

Drive one first, if you can for about two days before buying. You'll notice the shimmy of the steering wheel, glove box misalignment, creeks from the seltbelt adjustment area, the driver seat shifts and I can go on. But other then that. The car is great. I would wait til the 05's, maybe they fixed those issues. By the way, the 265ph engine and trans and the style also great. I get alot of looks. I get complaiments for people all the time.

I've had mine for three weeks and I don't have any of the problems that have been mentioned here. Go to any forums site for any make of car and you will find problems with all of them. Overall, even the ones here that have problems still proclaim that they love this car. When I picked mine, I took it home for the day and checked for every problem that had been mentioned here. It passed with flying colors. I couldn't be happier.
Good luck and I hope you'll be joining the 6th Gen group!

Thanks for the advise, the 350Z has the seat shifting problem and a few rattles. the major problem is too much toe in from the factory causing the inside edge of my tire to be completely bald at 18,000 miles.
Are there any problems with the pimped out (with all options) Maxima's? I'll check the first few pages as advised too, thanks!

the shimmy is annoying as hell. my car is back in the shop again today to try and fix the shimmy problem. some guys have said the shimmy has completely disappeared, but i think it depends on the svc. dept. and their competency level. the dealer said that they think they have figured out how to fix it se we'll see. this is what the dealer does!!!

Read the 4th and 5th gen forums and you'll see a lot less complaints than here in the 6th. I'd advise you to wait until the 05s come out as some problems will have been corrected by then. The 04's seem to be lemons quite often.

The most annoying is when you are in a turn, still pulling some g's, and you get back on the gas (auto trans), and there is a delay before the motor responds. Could be the drive by wire throttle. It is bullsh*t. I have not felt such a delay since driving a car with a carb.
Is there a mod to correct this?

Did anyone see this about the Quest with unsatisfied customers. This should be done for the Maxima. http://www.nissanhelp.com/News/Quest...Initiative.htm
Nissan Quest Satisfaction Initiative
Service Recall
During the course of ongoing Quest production several product enhancements were incorporated into Quests built after some Quest where manufactured. While some customers may never experience the conditions that prompted these improvements, Nissan would like to offer the opportunity to have some vehicles upgraded free of charge.
These upgrades for the 2004 Quest fall into three areas: squeaks and rattles; ease of component operation; and an air conditioning label replacement. The upgrades will include the installation of a noise reduction kit for the sliding doors and structural insulation in the body above the rear door. Additionally, Nissan dealers will replace the driver power window switch; shifter lever; 2nd row seat levers; throttle pedal; and ball studs that mount the rear door support struts. The reading lamps will be modified to improve operation and an A/C servicing label will be replaced with a new one. Depending upon when the Quest was manufactured, one or more of these improvements may already have been installed. Nissan dealers will be informed of the specific actions required for the vehicle and has been authorized to perform all that apply.
Nissan is conducting the Quest Customer Satisfaction Initiative to ensure customer will continued confidence and satisfaction with the Quest. Nissan hopes that the customers will take prompt advantage of the Quest Customer Satisfaction Initiative by scheduling your appointment as soon as possible. In addition, if the customer have previously paid for any of the repairs or upgrades covered by this initiative, Nissan will reimburse you for any reasonable, documented expenses. (Please call 1-800-753-9781 to make a claim.)
Please also note that all upgrades which are part of the Quest Customer Satisfaction Initiative MUST be completed no later than June 30, 2005. Again, therefore, Nissan urged the customers to schedule an appointment at the earliest convenience.
