CD Track information

CD Track information
Checked the audio forum and didn't see anything there so I thought I would post here.
I have an '04 SL with the upgraded Bose CD changer. RDS seems to work fine but none of my CD's will show CD title or track title. They always show "no track title". This is the case for home burned CD's as well as originals.
Does anyone else have this problem? Are all of my CD's too old to have this information encoded (Steely Dan, Pink Floyd, etc.)?
Thanks for the help.

They have to be encoded with CD TEXT. Some software for burnign CD's has this option.
Its hit and miss for new CD's. Some do, some don't. About the only new CD I have that shows track info is actually a hybrid SACD.

Same here. None of the CDs currently in my SL will show either track name or CD title, but then none of them are less than several years old.
I may hold off buying CDs for a year or so, until this info possibly becomes sort of standard.

Apparently not all cars come with the system set to display the track name, mine didn't.
You might try pushing the audio **** on the radio controls several times. It will cycle thru bass, treble, balance, fade (not necessarily in that order), but you will come to a choice for "display mode". Turning the **** cycles between "track name" and "track number".
Some prerecorded CDs come without track numbers, and display the name instead.
If you are not seeing the track name on a CD you recorded and burned the text to, give this a try.
p.s. Roxio also will burn the track names and album name and artist name.

To change the text displayed while playing a CD, press the AUDIO **** until "Display Mode" appears. Turn the Tuning **** within 2 seconds. The text will change as follows:
Track number <--> Track title <--> Disc title <--> Track number
Display satellite radio text:

Ok... while listening to SAT radio, I can hit the "Audio button" and it will display the song title/artist name in small text below the channel number.. that is what I'm referring too (sorry if I was unclear earlier). That is much easier to read.

To answer jc53's question from yesterday morning:
When Rathmax referred to the 'upgraded' Bose system, that misled you. The Bose with all its bells and whistles is standard on ALL SLs. It is only an 'upgrade' when referring to SEs.
us024077 is correct in that displaying the song title or CD title requires using the audio **** (as ocuihs also explained) to display this in place of displaying the numerical track # and CD slot #.
But the fact remains that most 'store bought' (non burned) CDs do not have the information available to display. I have checked dozens of my CDs that were from three to ten years old, and none had the CD title or song titles available. Very few of the new ones had it. That is why I am going to go easy on CD purchases for a year or two, until this info is more widely available.
Burners, however, should already have this info on their CDs.

I've got hundreds of store bought CDs some recent and some not so recent. The only ones that i've found this information on so far are: Audioslave (2002), Aerosmith's latest (Honking on Bobo / 2004) and Bruce Springsteen (The Rising / 2002).
My latest CD purchases were Lenny Kravitz (Baptism / 2004), Incubus (Morning View / 2001) (A Crow Left Of The Murder / 2004), and Coldplay (A Rush of Blood to The Head / 2002). The track titles were not included on any of these.
As Lightonthehill said, this info is not yet widely available on store bought CDs.

Youcould always reburn them to new cds and name the tracks before you burn. Then you have a copy for your car and a copy for home, and don't have to worry about the heat damaging your original cd.
Plus...it's not illegal to make a copy for your own use.

Thanks for the clarification Lightonthehill your post was right on. I've read the owners manual and know how to turn on the track info, it just doesn't display. To answer another question, I use Musicmatch to burn my CD's. I have Roxio and will try that to see if it works any better.
