Rattle on Passenger Side

In the last week, I developed a rattle somewhere on the passenger side of the car. I have not been able to detect where it is coming from. It sounds like the passenger door area but I wouldn't swear to that. It doesn't happen all the time. Must be on certain road surfaces but yet, it rattles more than 50% of the time.

It almost sounds like something is loose.

Anyone else have this problem? Any solution?

I have 3 current rattles (and 1 previously fixed rattle) coming from the passenger side, along with 1 unverified rattle:

Current Rattles:
1. Check the dash area on the passenger side. This is where my "major" rattle comes from. It's deceptively loud, but I can never isolate it while driving, so I can't tell you exactly where its coming from (neither can my dealer, surprise surprise...)

2. The moulding around the front pillar sometimes rattles for me (actually, on both driver and passenger side). Again, it's hard to isolate while driving.

3. Sometimes the passenger seat (while empty) will rattle back and forth and make a good vibration. It took me a while to find this one since you intuitively think seats are firmly secured...

Fixed rattle:
1. The door paneling padding (under the door panel) had been squashed and so the door would sometimes make a creaking sound when going around corners.

Suspected rattle:
1. The seatbelt retentioner. I've only been able to definately hear the driver's side rattle, but I would imagine that the mechanisms are identicle so I would expect the passenger's side seat belt retention mechanism to rattle too.

Man, that's a long list. Sorry to be a bummer. I hope you find your rattle, and that you can verify it for the dealer.

Sorry.
I just bought the car today and on a stretch of mild roadway (not too smooth nor too bumpy) I coud hear something. I thought it was empty passenger seat or belt but this sounds like its something in a pass door side. Subtle but noticeable.

Turning the radio on fixed it

(I know, that is not a viable solution).
Without the rattle, the car is soooo nice and quiet.

Also, I HAVE THE GLOVE BOX issue! The right side is out farther than the left side. Pointed this out to dealer (he noticed it and was stumped).

Bet there is a TSB for this in the future. Three cars on the lot had the same thing with glove box (SEs and an SL).

Other than that...first 70 miles have been great! No, Awesome!

There is a TSB out for the glove box alignment issue... but I forget the number.

Also, the rattle could be inside the door panel... mine needed more 'filler' and would occaisonaly squeek going around corners, etc.

I dont have rattlling but I found a new weird noise. When the fan is on with our without the a/c, i hear this scratching noise. it sounds like if a piece of paper is stuck onto a blade of a fan and the paper is constantly hitting the wall. I can only hear it when the car is parked or moving slowly. Anybody else have this problem or know what might be the cause of it? Thanks.

Have not had this with my '04, but I have had this twice on earlier Maximas. Both times, a dry leaf had somehow gotten into the vent and was being brushed by the fan blade.

At any rate, this is something you won't want to hear every time you slow down. If it does not go away over several weeks, have the dealer take a look.

hm..maybe its a leaf. anyhow, the problems keep coming, ever since i brought my maxima in for the minor ticking noise problem, i've been having more and more problems. The right side of the plastic piece underneath the front nose just FELL OFF. I wouldn't have checked underneath there if it werent for "rattling noise" while driving at higher speeds. I think the plastic protective thing is being pushed by the wind to move up and down causing the rattling. I didn't hit any curbs or any cement stoppers while parking. I'm starting to wonder about my stealership. or maybe its just coincidence.

Still love the car!
