Ok, so I've had the car since June 5 or so....

I already posted about my sway bar link adjustment, which took them a while to make the car make the noise, but 15 minutes to fix...

Anyway, now, when I start the car after its been sitting, you hear a brief 'chattering' noise for maybe 1 second or so. Anyone else here this noise?

My other noise I hear, which may be normal, is when the sun roof is just starting to slide back, it makes a very very light grinding noise, which could just be the sunroof moving, but I don't know!

 

you should take it to the dealers and get it checked. it might be your moonroof going off of track imo. about the the "chattering" noise, it could be your lose heat shield.

 

Do you think the heat shield only chatters for 1 second? I am having a hard time believing that it would stop that quickly. Plus, its not really a metallic noise, more of a mechanical noise.

 

I've had a loose heat shield on one of my previous maximas. It would rattle only for a second when first started while the car is at a low idle, then disappear. It usually came back when going over bumps, or closing the door when getting in/out.

 

See, I never hear it, except for the initial start. If I shut it off and then start it back up, I don't hear it. That's why I think its engine related. Does the car have hydraulic valve lifters? If that's the case, its just valve chatter before the oil pressure builds back up after a longer period of downtime.
