Rear Deck Rattle

I go back to any car dealer only as a last resort, or if a repair is specialized or costly. I'll fix anything myself before getting someone else to do it (cars, electronics, appliances, plumbing, anything).
While it may take me longer, I'll make sure that the job is done right, and nothing else gets damaged in the process.
This attitude taught me a lot over the years. Family and friends ask me to fix their stuff too.
Old fashioned guy............

So, does anyone have the disassembly procedure for the rear deck?
Thanks.
I found that a lot of the rattle (mine only rattles from bass) was coming from the rear brake light housing vibrating on the window. I bought some weather stripping and stuck it around the housing and a majority of the vibration is gone....
Well, I have been to the stealer twice and the rattle is still there. The first time I spent two hours there and 4 the second. I told them to test drive it to make sure it was fixed but the mechanic must have been deaf. They did the TSB work on the first visit and really not sure what they did the second so lets hope three times a charm.
Make sure it's not the high-mounted stop light hitting the inside of the back window - I have had this problem along with the rattle - can fix the stop light problem with a couple of clear cabinet bumbers available at Lowe's - easy fix and takes care of the problem.
trust me. the sound is coming from the deck itself. I had the same problem where I thought it was the brake light assembly. I played a song where the bass rattles and placed my hand on the deck and the rattle stopped. I then removed the brake light and saw the space in between the deck itself and the frame. I stuffed strips of a t shirt folded into the space to make the lid firm as to not allow movement. haven't had a problem since.
I had a similar problem and it wasn't the brake light on the deck. Does it sound like metal torque and or clicking? My car was doing this and it turned out that it wasn't the TSB suggested fix. It was some metal that was rubbing against the frame somewhere. I cannot recall the exact description they gave me, sorry. There is a fix for this problem though.

Kevin7 is right..... I took apart the rear seats and deck this weekend to solve the rattle. Took me a couple of hours (at an easy pace) to do the job.
Now that I've taken it apart, I know that all you have to do is what Kevin suggests. Remove the center brake assembly (press it toward the rear window then lift it upward, and disconnect the electrical connector), and stuff in some rags or foam packing material toward each side of the car. This will prevent the deck from rattling against the metal frame.
Nice goin' Kev.

Was this post in relation to the stock woofers, or an upgraded system? I recently installed two 10's in a sealed box in the trunk and the rear deck is horribly loud. The only way I could make it bearable was to buy a rubber door stop from Lowe's and wedge it between the third brake light and the window....I know pretty cheesy. Car Toys is going to check it out this weekend but I thought maybe I could fix it myself before then. Any advice besides the rags or the foam?
When i brought my car in for a service i asked them to do the tsb on this and they said they wouldn't because they couldn't prove it was rattling. I gave up on them and stuffed socks between the shelf and the window and now more rattle. Still not sure why the Dealership gave me such a hard time with the TSB
xerius - these rattles were generally in Maximas with OEM speakers.
Fortunately, my rattle was the hi-mounted brake light against the rear window, solved by two very small clear bumpers from Lowes, one on each lower corner of the hi-mounted brake light housing. No more rattle.
edit - since I now see that was your first post, I should have said 'original equipment' instead of 'OEM'. You probably knew, but just in case . . .

I knew what OEM meant, TSB on the other hand...... I'm a newb
I did the rag thing from above, hopefully that helps in addition to what Car Toys will do this weekend. Although, I must admit, I'm pulling the rags out before I take it to them. Over 900 bucks.....I think they can afford to chase down some rattles. It sounds great though w/ factory Bose stereo, 2 10's in a sealed box, 600 watt amp + rubber door stop.
Thanks much

Metalic Clicking in rear deck
I took my car back to my local dealership 4 times now and once to a different dealership. They cant seem to fix the metal clicking in the back deck (sounds like a clock tick but louder and occurs only when vehicle is cold in the morning, soon as sun warms it up its gone).
My dealrship advisor (service manager) said he fixed it, so i took him for a road test #4, "Yep, its back again Kam, what can I tell you, its not a $100,000 dollar Mercedes."
Not to mention the back deck now is all bent to ****, and bulged out on the left side (looking at the rear window from the front).
AND THE CLICKING IS STILL THERE!! I dont know what to do, Im very frustrated and I'm really debating on trading in this car for a Honda or something.
Thanks Guys,
Newb Kam

Rear DECK metal clicking fixed
so here is what i did, 1) take girl friend to parking lot (666)

2) teach girl friend how to drive stick :-(
3) tell girl friend to drive in cricles once she figures out stick
4) get in the trunk with the seats open
5) try not to barf from driving in circles
6) locate rattling (clicking, metal tourqing) in rear of vehicle
7) found IT!!!
8) get a self tapping screw (home depot)
9) drill it into the rear metal subframe under the rear parcel shelf, where the metal clicking was found
10) locate a new mechanic whos not def and can fix a destroyed clutch from girlfriend wear and tear
11) never buy nissan again

If you have less than 36k miles on the car, blame Nissan and make them replace the clutch under warranty.
I have the same rattle in my rear deck, i have a feeling it is the brake light, tapping against the glass, but i will let the dealership figure that out. Seems like all these foreign cars, made in america, have minor issues. I have an 05 TL, and it has rattling sounds in the back, and in the front. However, we still have the best, and most reliable engines.

Rear deck
even though it does not rattle it was still installed all crooked to $hit by Midway Nissan in Whitby. None the less its going in to get the rear deck re-seated properly on Tuesday and hopefully they can get rid of the annoying rattle from the middle passanger belt tensioner.
Another rattle is starting to appear from the passanger front side of the dashboard. If it continues, is it hard to tear out the top of the dash? I would like to do this one my self. Midway already bent the crap out the one in the back and I dont want them to do the same to the front.
I would buy an Infinity but there expensive as hell. But maybe a used one would be ok. :S
Next time I think i'll just go for a used Merc.
Peace

I'm curious what people say when their $50k-$200k car has a minor rattle. Since those w/o them have some notion that more money means flawless. It's impossible for every single car to be identical in every aspect off the assembly line. So i guess since the dealer mentioned "$100k Merc" they must never ever rattle?
Has there been an invention that keeps the rear-view mirror from rattling in any car with the bass up? (besides removing it of course).

The brake light is only one part of the rattle, I put clear sticky bumps on the light and that has stopped that part. The rest is inside underneath. As Nismo said, socks seem to do the trick...I just kept stuffing until it stopped rattling, now I wear shoes with no socks!!
Don't mean to bump an incredibly old thread, but +1 on the rags method. I have an 04 and have had a rattle for a few months. Using the search function, came across this solution. No rattle no more!
I had a horrible rattle in my rear deck and I found it came from the seatbelt housing. I removed all 3 seatbelts, wrapped the housing in dynamat and problem fixed. Just remove the rear seat, and the deck bolts and pillars are exposed for easy removal.
Unfortunately I have expereinced the same rattle you guys speak of, mine came after I let a custom shop install my eibach drop kit, I also have a sub in the trunk that doesnt help the situation. What I did was take some furniture foam and stick between the back deck and some weather stripping on the back of the light where it touches the rear window and that seemed to do the trick.
Stick a sock in it! At last!
Sorry to revive an old thread but - Thanks to the forum for this fix.
I have been listening to that dang rattle on and off for SIX YEARS. Basically I just kind of learned to live with it. Last night I devoted a clean pair of Merino wool blend hiking socks, men's size 9-11, to the cause. I started with one left and one right, but had to move both to the passenger side to quiet the rattle.
I did view the TSB but all that disassembly did not intrigue me.
Props again to the talented folks on the forum.
