This is starting to look pretty bad for us out here. Ivan is pretty ****ed off and looks like it wants to really mess things up. Anyone else around in this area? Guess tomorrow will tell things a bit better.

Hope everything is okay and you stay safe. Take it from someone who has been there many times! Don't take a chance, just get out if they tell you too. This one looks mighty mean. Life is more important than property.

We are expecting some of the effects here as well. First Gaston, then Charley and Frances. We can't take any more rain, we have been getting hammered. They're predicting another 2-5 inches more from Ivan this week. I hope this is the last of them.

Will probably be in the shelter on base the day after tomorrow with my family depending on how things go. Right now just wondering what is better......take the Maxima and park it outside the shelter in the middle of crowded parking lots....or leave it parked under the car port that can be blown to hell and smash it to bits. Not sure. Take the hooptie Camaro to the shelter or the Maxima. As I live in base housing, and have renters insurance.....not worried about the house as much as if the car gets totaled....for the 30 grand I owe on it, and what insurance will give me if it is wasted.....that will suck. I know at least the family will be safe in the shelter though 100%. Right now just trying to lessen the loss options. Any suggestions on what to do with the Maxima? Again, my main priority is the family and the shelter will take care of us. If this car gets wasted.....going to take a BIG loss on what insurance will pay for it...that and imagine, skyroof wasted and the windows....imagine what the water will do to the interior...that is if it does not get crushed under my evacuated house car port...or if I drive it to the shelter and park it in a parking lot. Decisions decisions...this storm is an evil one..........any Alabama or Florida panhandle guys out there? Needless to say I will most likely be offline for a few days.

I really just miss the back home Cali earthquakes about now.

If you get a direct hit I don't think that I would trust the Max under a carport. Seems like every time I see news footage those things are the first to go. (Sorry, not trying to upset you.) I would take it to the shelter if there are no other options. Park it in between a couple of big SUV's or something so they block the debris.

Thanks maxzma, just looking for opinions on what to do. Leave the Max at home under a car port or take it to a parking lot outside the shelter. I was first leaning towards leaving it at home under the car port and taking the wifes beater to the shelter because It us not a flood area here but have issues with the house....if this is now what Andrew was so far....right now worried about debris hitting the car and the carport either crashing down on it or something else...the house. I owe 30 grand on it, you can imagine if the Max gets wasted......I will be out about 8 grand I imagine from what they pay me. Seems like it is not a major issue, but my house is base housing, family will be OK, can deal with our house getting wasted....nothing really expensive in it, just personal stuff that will be the big issue. I am insured through USAA. Damn, this storm so far looks like one that people will tell their Grandchildren about. Anyone else....take the car to the bomb shelter open to the elements parked in crowded parking lots or leave it at the house when I shelter, under the car port?

Any way you can rent a storage unit big enough to put your car in? Even if you have to rent it for a month or 3 months, that would still be cheaper. Do you know anyone that has a garage? Hopefully this thing won't hit you and you won't have to worry about it. We will keep our fingers crossed for you guys.

Not like one of these aluminum storage units will do much under the winds. Probably the first to go....along with the stuff inside them.

Carport. Leave the keys in it for the looters. Hopefully either way it will be destroyed and written off rather than badly damaged and repaired. Nobody wants that.

Storage units around here are made of brick with like large garage doors. Very sturdy and could handle the winds. Must be different around there. Just trying to give some ideas.

Do you have any big malls in your area? Or hospitals, anything with a covered parking garage? We got hit by Frances just days ago and a few of my friends and I left our cars at the mall parking garage. Seems like a lot of people opted for that. My mom left hers at the hospital, no issues at all. Just a thought.

I dont think those big parking lots that are like 5 stories high wont collapse. I would put it in there. I have a garage though so I dont have to worry.
