XM Question

I am a new member, so I don't know if this has been covered. Is it normal that the Title/Artist/Song display only displays 10 digits?

If you have the OEM (Nissan/Clarion) tuner running thru your pre-wired harness, then the answer is yes... The MAX's display screen has a limitation on how many characters it can show...no "scrolling" or "marquee" feature such as the aftermarket tuners provided by SIRIUS and XM...

Sirius Factory Tuner

The Sirius factory tuner (OEM -Nissan/Clarion) shows the full description for the artist and title. The screen scrolls right and left. I've read in previous postings that the XM receiver does not offer this feature.

Is this with the Non-Nav or Navi screen. I see in the Navi version that Artist name/title information scroll across the bottom of the color screen. Can anyone confirm?

I too noticed this and I know for a fact that the non-Navi screen can display more than 10 characters (because if there is no song infomation available, it will say "NO TITLE AVAILABLE" or something which is more than 10 characters...). So I guess if you get XM over Sirius, then you are stuch with 10 letters (I wish I would have got Sirius now... ).

xm install help

I have a 2004 Maxima and I'm looking to get the xm system in my vehicle. However, the local nissan dealer gave me a price of $533 for just the hardware for the satellite system.. Can anyone tell me where can I get the hardware cheaper? Also, I was told that my vehicle is pre-wired. Why is this hardware so expensive?

They did the same thing to me. Thats what you call uninformed parts dept. I would order it through Grubbs.

When everyone speak of "Grubbs" is that an Infinity dealer? Can you explain. I really like to get the satellite installed in my Max.

yes, Grubbs sells the kits for the Max. Got my XM from them and they are prompt and courteous. Be sure to get the micro antenna instead of that monster bubble.

The max display is capable of scrolling because it does it on my CD's that have long titles/song names... unfortunately, the OEM XM max tuner sucks with the 10 digit cap.

Also, when I bought my tuner a few months back, it was about $350, but I was told by several parts departments that Nissan is updating the kit somehow that was going to raise the price to the $533 range. Guess that already took effect...
