My First Maxima! Updated Grille Pics!

Two weeks ago I purchased an 2005 Nissan Maxima SE and I love it. My prevoius car was a 94 STS and decided to jump from American to Jap. Real Happy. Car is great. Although I wanted to modify the grille, put in HID and change the 18" Alloys to chrome. Any suggestions on what places to shop from? Thanks! :attention

Welcome! You're very similar to me. My Onyx SE 04 is my first Max and cross over from American. You found the right place for your modding needs. Take care of that baby and break her in smoothly as recommended. Now take some pics and post them.

PaL379 - Welcome to the best Maxima site anywhere.

Be aware you have not really 'jumped from American to Japanese'. Unlike dozens of 'American' cars that are NOT made in the US, the sixth gen Maxima is made in Smyrna, TN by Americans using parts of which over 80% are made in the US.

You will get plenty of help here from folks who have done the things you suggested. Of the three you mentioned, changing to HID seems to be the only difficult one. By far.

I notice you are from Brooklyn, but you don't type with a Brooklyn accent (that is meant as a very lame joke).

I feel you will be able to get the info you need as soon as our 'day posters' wake up. You might want to browse here occasionally, so as to get ideas on what problems to watch for, and what to do about them.

Again, welcome aboard!

HIDs will run you anywhere from $850 - $1000 each headlight you replace! And that's not including labor. If you got the duckets, go for it! But for me, HIDs aren't THAT important to me! lol

The grille, IMO, is a MUST to replace. I see all these people mod'ing their MAXs and they leave the OEM grille on and it just cancels out all the mod'ing they've done to it...that's my take. The only 6th Gens that look good w/ the OEM grille are the silver/gray ones... Guess because the grille is the same color, I guess...

And if you're going to go chrome w/ the wheels, you really should consider upgrading to 20s...they set the MAX off so well--especially when you drop the suspension w/ Eibachs...

My two cents!

Happy MAX'ing!!!

And one other caveat re the HIDs:

The OEM ones tend to burn out much faster than regular headlamps. My 200K SE has ALL its original lamps, but several posters here have had problems with the '04 lamps. More with the fogs than the HIDs, but several have had to replace the HIDs.

Plus: The HIDs MUST be aimed very accurately in order to avoid blinding oncoming traffic, and, even then, many posters say they regularly get 'flashed' by annoyed drivers.

Thanks for the great info. I might just scratch out the HID for now...also I dont believe I can drop the car. These streets out here in Bklyn suck!!! pot holes and all sorts of crap out here.

I'm just going to change the grill and go with aftermarket rims. I like this stillen grill from their site. I'm more into the mesh look

hey light, I do have the brooklyn accent..LOL its a good thing you cant hear it by reading it.

just to clarify that grille, stillen.com is selling it, but its NOT a stillen grille. the company that makes it is called Street Scene Equipment

They call it the Street Scene Speed Grille.

Here are some pics of the grille! The nissan emblem should be arriving today or tomorrow so I'll see how it looks with it.
Rims will be here next week, so I'll take better pics of my car.

These pics are of the grille. Thanks for looking!
