Junk In The Trunk! Added Sub-Woofer...

The stock Bose sound system has decent bass, but I wanted to hear a little more thump in my UB-40. I built a custom box and put in a 12" JL Audio sub, powered by a Rockford Fosgate amp. I'm not trying to win any sound system contests, just wanted to augment the stock system with some extra, good clean bass.

i was under the impression that with the Bose system, you couldn't really make any changes to the system. when i test drove the Maxima, I put in a couple of my CD's and while the system was really loud, the bass was pathetic to say the least.

how did you do all of this, as this is something i really wanna do if/when my car arrives.

Bryan aka cobymoby from Berk Technology sells an adaptor which allows you to add an aftermarket amp along with a subwoofer setup to your factory bose audio system. Shoot him a pm and see if he can hook you up.

How much does this adaptor go for? and how hard is the instal?

I'm planning on getting a new HU, but in the mean time i wouldn't mind just putting my old subs and amp back in.

I bought another trunk mat from a Nissan dealer and covered the front of the box/faceplate with it, centering the logo between the amp & the speaker. It was a b*tch getting the rug to wrap around the edges because it's about a quarter inch thick. A combination of contact cement and 1/4" staples were enuff to persuade it to stay put!

Remember, you saw it here first.....

RedOpMax; your system looks excellent; I had Best Buy install my Bazooka RS10 dual voice coil tube and it sounds excellent. I wish I had known about that adapter. They used a line level adapter spliced into the speaker leads in the rear deck. I prefer the custom look like you have or if I could find some 6X9's that were subs that had some bass like a 10" sub I would be happy.

I posted some comments about the Greddy. Can you reply because you have exactly what I was looking at doing to my car.

Nice system.

I'm a noob with an 08 SE. Pretty plain jane car, with non-Bose audio, no nav, no leather.

Realy pretty Black with a slate grey cloth interior.

I'm looking to upgrade the quality of sound with a minimum of modifications. I'd really like to keep the trip computer functions.

I ave a pair of 12 inch subs with a pair of 800 watt amps in an enclosure that will fit in the trunk nicely.

Is the stock head unit the bottleneck or the stock speakers? I don't need video, nav, or anything else, just want better sound. Am willing to replace the head unit, don't want to replace the speakers unless they are the problem.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

its funny how we complain that newbies don't use the search feature yet when they do, we complain that they cracked open a 4 year old thread? double standard.

Ive added a sub to the bose and it gave it what I thought was missing. (still want more highs)Lol I guess the whole bottleneck is the system. I mean Im content with the added sub but am used to a complete over haul in system which can sound alot better.

I've never complained about them not using the search feature, but maybe he could have used it to find the
Audio Section

I'm sorry, it's just crazy to dig it up a 4yr old for a basic stereo question. Whatever, hey maybe he didn't realize, I'll even give my .02 Add your subs and replace the front speakers. You can alway replace the head unit later.

The bottleneck would be a lack of bass. Add your Amp & woofer and I'm sure you'll be relatively satisfied with the sound.

You can just tie your Amp into the rear speakers for audio using the high level inputs or buy a high to low converter for pre-amp input into your Amplifier. Then run a 2 or 4 guage wire from your battery to your amp into the trunk. Just ground it right to the metal in your trunk.

Good luck and welcome to the site.

Thank you coolmax for the kind advice.

Sorry to dredge up and old thread. Perhaps they should be locked at some point.

Searced and searched for Audio with a starting point in the 6th generation forum. This site is not as easy to use as many, but it does contain the same type of "gatekeepers" who wil spend time and energy sending their useless quips to a noob instead of just answering the question.

I must admit I did not scroll below the Generations area because I wanted to focus on the 6th generation not to bother any one else. Now I see there is a Audio forum, and I will read every post in there before I EVER ask another audio question.

Thanks again CoolMax, and If you ever need anything, just ask. Pair of 12's going in tonight.

Perhaps I apologized too soon.

Here was my starting point. http://forums.maxima.org/forumdisplay.php?f=22

No audio threads or sub-forums visible. Here is where I started looking, and entered teh 6th Gen forum and performed a search.

I didn't think I was stupid. The site is kinda weird.

I'll get used to it.

People will give you a hard time for just about anything. Ask your questions. If you start a new thread and a mod feels it needs to be moved he will.

Welcome. Be sure to check out the Audio Forum.

The bottle neck would be the speakers. They don't really sound all that great...so an option would be to replace them with aftermarket selections. But in my opinion, invest a bit more money into it and replace the speakers as well as the head unit. I think you'll be much happier in the end.
