Hard shifting

I brought my max into the local Nissan dealer today to have the front shimmy fixed, the hard shifting when cold fixed, and the moon-roof looked at for the recall. I got a call at noon today saying the moon roof was ordered but the car was ready for pick up. They (the dealer) said the shimmy would be fixed by a tire rotation (it'll happen this week when Goodyear 2 of my tires) and that the car is supposed to shift hard when cold because that is what is best for the transmission!!!! W-T-F! How did you all get the dealers to fix this with the TSB? I mentioned the TSB and they just said..normal system ops. The car will be going back to them again next week and I think I willl be complaining again about the shifting. My 02 Max never did this and I am not happy with this..what are your thoughts on this?

Make them fix it - it's covered under the warranty, and there is a TSB - my dealer fixed it in the middle of the summer without a question...

I Agree as well your car issue is covered. Tel them to stop the BS and talk to the service manager. What I do is usually I will throw him a few bucks on the side just to get him on my side and everything else is all love.

I have 2K on my Max with manual trans. When the engine is cold the shifting is a little grindy in 2nd and 3rd. Overall it is a little clunky. Once it warms up it is better. Is this the same problem. What is the TSB? Also I had a 98 max and it shifted great compared to this model.

Print out the TSB and read it to them, or be more tactful and just hand it to them when they play dumb.

WinterC, TSB refers to Auto tranny.

Just found this about 6 speed:

When I read posts like this one I am grateful I have a dealership that thinks the world of me. They will fix my car, no questions asked. This is how all dealerships should be. They act as though this is coming out of their paychecks and they gave you the car for free. Why don't they get it that you paid for the car and if you complain about a problem, they must fix it regardless and not give you a bunch of B.S. I would go to Nissan Corporate and turn in names. Sorry guys but not all Nissan dealerships are like this. I have bought 6 Nissans in the past 6 years. I wish they would do that to me. I take that back, I don't want that to happen to me with my short temper.

After searching all I could come up with for TSBs to take with me are the front shimmy, the heater core gurgling, and I found the shift lock one but it is not the full TSB and doesn't have the letter head with the pertinant Nissan info, does anyone here have it that they can post or email to me? Car is going in next wednesday for the glass and the above TSBs. Hopefully goodyear will call me this week with my tire and then I can have them do the rotation and see if that fixes the shimmy.

The TSB is for hard shifting with the Auto - not the Manual - sorry - there doesn't seem to be any TSB's for the manual at the Nissan site...sorry.

If it's a manual tranny, I hate to admit it, but the stealer may be right. Nissan's manual trannies are renowned for their notchiness. Synthetic gear oil (AMSOIL or Red Line) is the way to go to make it slightly better, but it will never shift like a Bimmer.

The TSB is NTB 03-015 where Nissan switched the spec of the gear oil to 75W-85 from of the original 75W-90. Bandaid fix. With the new spec grade, the synchros will wear even faster, but thy did it just to quiet us people b!tching about shift notchiness.
