When I read about the Altima SE-R a few weeks ago, I knew one thing for certain: Nissan definitely plans an HP boost for the '06 Maxima. The SE-R leaves them no choice. Even a twenty year maxima lover like myself would have second thoughts if an Altima with more 'go' and more performance features was available for less money than the Maxima costs.

The only question: how much oomph will the '06 Maxima get? I would guess somewhere between 275 and 300. Probably between 280 and 290. At least enough to separate it from the Altima.

At the end of the day, it is still an ALTIMA, not a MAXIMA. I actually drove one here in Toronto, before I got my 04. Two totally different cars, fit and finish is an ALtima, the rides are do not compare, it does sound sweet, if you are under the age of 25. THere in lies who this car is built for. IF you are a youngster, looking for a nice sporty sedan with bang for your buck, the SE-R is great. If you are over 35 like me, the car looks kind of childish on you. This is why I got the MAXIMA. Both great cars, for their demographics. If I was under 25 I would not want a Maxima, I would take the Altima

Funny thing is when I called my insuracne company the 05 ALtima SE-R was 420 a year more than an 04 Maxima. Seems like insurance companies are becoming wise to the SE-R trim level so be careful.

Well I am 18 so I meet your under 25 criteria and i would still choose a maxima. me as a "youngster" would want the luxury of having the maxima over the "sporty youngster look"
They are built better and are made to do what you want them to do. look great for any age and preform amazingly.

I guess, I underestimated the sophistication of today's youth. I remeber when I was under 25, I would have jumped on an Altima like that. Great to hear todays youth is more refined. I guess by the time todays under 25 become over 35 they will be Infiniti cusotmers...my god where has the time gone.

i am 20 now, got my max when i was 18, I have never wanted any type of boy racer car, i dig luxo performance vehicles, my next vehicle will be another maxima unless i fall into some cash, then i will get an infiniti Q45 or a BMW 745Li....

That sounds like a beast to you ? What kind of cars have you driven ? Why dont you test drive an 04 Cobra, with a Bassani X pipe.., or a Dodge Hemi with a cat back......that is a " beast " of a sound. I cant imagine why the sound on that clip turned you on so much....

LOL.....now a nice V8 grumble with a lope and exhuast cutout sound like a beast.....like my LS1....but no way in hell any Altima will sound like a BEAST.....loud exhaust does not mean fast.

IMO, it sounds like @ss. The 3" flowmaster setup I had on my old z-28 was quite beastly sounding. This SE-R is not

the "clouds" coming out the tail pipe is the result of hard acceleration/depressing the gas to the floor. I all cars with fuel injection- when you depress the gas all the way to the floor quickly you will see black smoke come out the tail pipe. This is normal. The smoke is unused fuel and carbon deposits being forced out.

The exhaust is stock. I saw one come in at my dealership last week. Its not bad... but it is an altima. Hey if I bought that everyone would be right when they guessed what kind of car I drove. Its like noones heard of the Max, they ALL think its an Altima, or a CTS. Anyway, the Alti does have some nice features, like the 18" gunmetal rims, the SE-R seude seats and the carbon interior. Or at least the one I saw did.

That sound is what any 02-05 Maxima will sound like with the resonator removed, it sorta sound like my 350 just a little more raspy sounding although. Listen to any 02-05 Max with resonator removed it sounds just like that SER.

So let say If I remove my resonator, does it do any good for the car ???
is it true like you said that the resonator removed, it'll sound similar like the 350Z ???

I sent it to Maxmus. Hopefully he'll post it. Its not a very good clip, the cars in motion, but you can get the idea. Also, I left my resonator on.

KC; I just ordered the Magnaflow's, 14815. I will post pics when they arrive after the install. I have Magnaflows (custom dual exhaust) on my Acura Legend with no resonator. Nice deep tone. I wanted to wait until I found some nice chrome wheels before I posted pics but I like my factory ones. I may get them dipped in chrome if I can find a good place to do it in the DC area.

I sure would like to get a sound clip of someone with a 04/05 without the resonator so I can see how loud it is inside the cabin. The drone sound is a killer and annoying for us older guys.

Definetly not a beast, but not terrible either though. A little raspy, but nothing like a civic. I'm actually thinking for my exhaust setup a 2.5" bpipe resonated, with a 3.5 Altima muffler. I could possibly live with that.
