New 2005 Maxima Owner!
New 2005 Maxima Owner!
After 12 years of Ford T-Birds I am now the proud owner of a 2005 Maxima 3.5 SE. Red of course. I'd like recommendations on almost anything, from oil to upgrades. My first need is some ventvisors that the local auto part stores don't seem to have. Also I see a lot of abbreviations in posts. Where can I find out what these mean? Thanks
welcome! about every question u can have is answered throughout the vast different forums on here. best way to get a lot of opinions. i'm using castrol gtx and switching to mobil 1 at 20k miles. using oem filter. your visors were available on eBay.
warning... this site is addicting. so what options did u get? post some pics.

Shoot, I didn't check ebay today! I'm going to synthetic oil too. It doesn't void any warranties does it? Google searches came up with a number of oil comparisons and I'm leaning toward amsoil.
I'm not too big on bells and whistles. The SE had what I wanted standard. And the 18" wheels and firmer ride I wanted. The skyview window is nice but I'm already forgetting
that I have it. And after 12 years of rear wheel drive I have to get used to the combination of power and front wheel drive. It handles much different when I get on the gas in anything but a straight line. Both hands on the wheel is a must!

LenBum - One detail - Although several here went to synthetic oil from the start (easy to do with a vehicle so lovable), Nissan techs recommend giving the engine at least the first 10K (preferably 20K) miles with a good quality dino oil in order to give the rings, etc, a chance to 'seat and fit' together in order to obtain the best long-term engine performance and fuel mileage.
It seems the synthetic is so good it prevents the important 'mating' of critical engine parts.
That is why NismoMax80, in his earlier post in this thread, said he is going with Castrol GTX for 20K before switching to synthetic. That is what the majority here (me too) seem to be doing.
The advice to find your ventshades on ebay is good; I paid $119 plus tax for my set thru the dealer. You should find them on ebay for not much more than half that price.
The torque seems a little strange until you get used to it. But after awhile, you don't even notice it. I 'accustomed' myself to torque on my '85 Maxima twenty years ago, and haven't thought about torque in the two decades of Maxima driving since.
Welcome a'board' (pun intended), and hang tight!
