Thought 05's came with painted calipers?

Hey CanadianMOFO,
Good to hear from you again...actually I worked out a deal with Nissan and especially Spinelli Nissan in Pointe-Claire (Montreal West-Island). Traded in the 2004 SL ....phew...for a 2005 SE...Suffice it to say that brand loyalty has a lot to do with great customer service! Thank you Spinelli.
Actually it's hard to tell...the calipers don't look like bare metal...looks more like a matt primer. In my case, matt gray. Oh well, I am going to paint them silver. Some say black or red ... I like to the "Everything is silver" theme...I find it goes nice with my Trenz grille. in fact the whole interior with than awesome anodized aluminum trim is unbelievable. It grew on me real fast as did the 18" inch wheels. The wheels are "hyper silver" as opposed to chrome or plain aluminum. Chrome is nice but I find that this "hyper silver" is sharp and elegant. When you look down and see that rubber 245/45 you can't help but stare, ...a pair of Yokos or Dunlops would equally be at home here.
I am also impressed with the smoothness of this 5 speed tranny, you can't feel the shift points...buttery smooth. I think the 2005 Max is going to create lot of attention. I find that the interior has improved and the overall fit and finish is better. They seemed to have solved most of the issues. Well done Nissan...thank you Carlos Ghosn and the 200 engineers from Japan than knew that Nissan's reputation for quality must be preserved!

By the way CanadianMoFo, where is New Liskeard? This is sort of off the topic ...I had a Red headed Irish Girlfriend a few years back... she was beautiful and had a wicked Irish temper though. She wore her long red hair thick and wavy with lots of body and bounce and her hair was so red it was like fire... you could spot her a mile down St. Catherine street! LOL Ahhh youth!

I was thinking WTF...but then I remembered what I put in my profile. Too funny.
Silverbelle04 is right. New Liskeard is way the hell north.

xorbitman - The 'official Nissan press release' list of changes for the '05 Maxima included this statement:
'Front and rear brake calipers are now painted black (previously painted gold).'
Taken at face value, that is fairly explicit. Not much wiggle room. When the first '05 Maxima arrived at my dealer on August 8th, I parked my '04 right beside it for a complete comparison.
Among the things I noticed were that the brake calipers on both my '04 and the '05 were sort of a sick, weak, silvery-grayish mustard color (Nissan gold?).
I have checked several '05 Maximas since then, and have not yet seen a black set of calipers. Maybe there was a back supply of the mustard colored ones to be used up before the new black ones appear. Who knows?

Calipers are plated
After close examination of the calipers on my 04' Max, I have come to the conclusion that they are not painted at all. The gold/silvery patina is from the gold cadmium plating. Cad plate for calipers makes a lot of sense for a number of reasons: Very durable, plus resistant to corrosion and heat.
I would guess that Nissan paints over the plating on the black calipers.

Whatever the plating is, it will change color over time as it is exposed to corrosive elements like brake dust and road salt. My calipers definitely look duller than they did when the car was new.
