04 Max SL

I found a dealer that is willing to sell an 04 Max SL 5 spd auto w/ manual, for $28,000 and 2% APR. It has 17's, leather, BOSE, auto-dimming rearview, 400 miles in it. Is that a fair price?

That's a ripoff for an '04 IMO... he's probably dying to get out of it, so I'd say work him down and see what he says.

Worst he can do is say no...

Besides, with 400 miles on it, it was probably a floor car used for test drives and stuff... you wanna make sure everything is fine with it, and tell him you don't feel like paying what is now top dollar for a car that everybody put their *** in...

So is it an auto or manual? Seems a little high to me for what they offer. You can haggle better than that!!!

Way To High I Just Bought A 05 Sl For 28,ooo Out The Door With The 1000 Rebate. The 04 Sl At The Same Dealer Were Going For 26,900 And Don't Forget About The 1750 Rebate On 04's Now. The Best Advice I Could Give To Anyone Is Before You Go To Any Car Dealer Get Pre-approved Through Your Local Bank Or Credit Union And They Will Give A Blank Check To Take With You To The Dealer Saying Not To Exceed Xxxx Amount Of Dollars. It Saves You Thousands And Alot Less Haggle. Negotiation On My 05 Sl Started At 32,480 And I Knew The Whole Time I Was Going To Pay 28000 Out The Door Because That Was All I Had In My Pocket From My Bank. It Pisses The Dealer Off Too. I Loved It.

Maxfrost - The fact your '04 SL has 5 speed with tiptronic (manual) option means it was built after Feb 6th of 2004 (the assembly line production of '04 Maximas began in Jan 2003, and SLs got the old 4 speed auto until Feb 6, '04).

As info, ALL '04 Maximas SLs come with 17" wheels/tires, leather, Bose, auto-dimming rear view mirror, etc. The only '04 Maxima available in 'stripped' version is the base SE.

Factors affecting the price of an SL are such things as power sunroof, navigation package, the VDC/TCS package (vehicle dynamic control, traction control system, and full size spare on matching alloy wheel), the elite package (console in rear, rear window power sunshade, etc, etc), and a spoiler. The power sunroof added about $900 to original MSRP. The VDC/TCS added about $900. The NAV system added beaucoup bucks. I don't remember the price of the elite pkg. IIRC, the spoiler lists for either $300 or $500.

I personally would probably offer no more than $25.7K plus no more than invoice for any options. But if the car seems in perfect condition, and you really like it, you should probably still offer not much more than $26K plus $700 if it has a power roof, plus $700 if it has VDC/TCS, plus around $1000 if it has the nav pkg, plus $500 if it has the elite pkg, plus $250 if it has an OEM spoiler.

But others here would place different values on different options, based on what was important to them. Good luck with whatever you decide.

The NAV was a $2K option on the sticker, so $1K is probably low - dealer cost probably at least $1.5K - other than that I would agree with light on this one...

My loaded Journey Package SL (with NAV/VDC/XM SAT/Sunroof/Mats) cost me 31.2K a year ago at Christmas. 28K for a last years base SL is way too much!

cos i got my 04 SL 5 spd last sept at 28K with 2% APR, so I end up paying less than $500 for my ride. Not bad! especially because the dealership was (and still is) so nice! One time my wife had to bring her 01 Altima for service, they gave her a loaner for free (cos she does a lot of driving and couldnt wait for the service to be finished), even if she got her Altima from another dealer. Not bad at all!

Good job! I wanted to pay it in cash too, but when the dealer gave me 2% APR, I decided to keep my money and buy something else.
