I just installed XM about a week ago.
I picked up this - http://www.grubbsperformance.com/Mer...uct_Code=999U9
along with this antenna (which really is micro: ~ 1.5" sqare and ~ 3/4" high - http://www.grubbsperformance.com/Mer..._Code=XM-Micro .

I installed the receiver on my own which was really easy. You just take off the trunk lining on the bottom of the rear shelf (below rear speakers/subs) and the plugin is taped right in there. Just attach the receiver to the shelf it with the provided screws, velcro and brackets. That took me all of 20 minutes. I just left the antenna on the back shelf right now, I'll run it up to the roof when we get a warm day. It's really pretty easy. I have a PDF of the instructions from Nissan I could email to you if you want to take a look...

Edit: your car must be prewired for the above to work. Otherwise you have to run wire from the front to the trunk. If your car is prewired, there'll be a sticker on the driver's side door jam stating so.

ok I'll send you my e-mail when I take a look at the door sticker. I don't have my car here at the moment. I'll look into it if I have the hook ups. I really don't want to start ripping my car apart yet...........

Just one caveat about the pre-wired cars out there. There are a limited number of Maxima's that have the sticker that are "supposed" to be pre-wired but are actually not. To be safe, verify that the harness is in the trunk as install30 did.

Otherwise you'll have to use a PAC AAI-NIS to plug into the back of the radio, or use a FM modulator to get sound into your stock system.

I just sent Tek-Niq the install guide...if anyone else wants it, let me know.

That guy's write up for the G35 is OK but this guide shows it on our car and was easier to follow for me. I can't even tell where he mounted the tuner from his pictures. Also the guide I have has instructions for installing the antenna outside of the car which is definitely necessary. Like I said earlier, I have mine on the back shelf for right now but for ***** I just ran it out to the roof for a while and the difference in reception is huge, way fewer signal drop-outs...

Is this install a plug and play type installation? Does it require a different info screen?

Basically plug and play - your info screen has all you need. The antenna is the only tricky part (if you want it mounted outside).

Go with Sirius. Much better programming.

So you do have to cut a hole in the trunk area? Guess I won't be doing that until Spring of next year.

You have to cut a notch in the rim of the trunk. I think I'm going to have the local audio shop do that part for me, I don't imagine they'll charge much for it. I can run the wire myself it's just putting a grinder to this car already freaks me out a little bit

I negotiated a dealer install as part of the deal on my car and the kit just came in. They will be installing it on Monday and say it is a 2 hour job. This will be my second Sirius radio. XM is 9.95/mo vs 12.95/mo for Sirius (6.99/mo for additional radios), but XM does not include on-line streaming for that price. That's another 3.99/mo so Sirius is less expensive if you want to listen on line, say at work, etc.

i did it myself. i would say it took about an hour, but it could have been done a lot quicker than that had i read the instructions and studied them a day before.

the only thing that i didn't do was mount the antenna on the roof. i don't plan to do it either because where i have my antenna mounted now, it really doesn't bother me.

all in all, pretty easy install for a newbie.

yep, on the rear parcel shelf right besides the brake light. reception seems to be fine, but i'm gonna test it out a little bit more today or tomorrow. a couple of dropouts would not bother me.

it's weird that when you finally get it hooked up, and turn on the radio, there are like 10 active stations to listen to. i called and had them activate it, then went to sleep. after i woke up, went out to the car and turned on the radio and the same stations were there. i was worried that i had damaged the tuner, so while i was driving around for a couple of minutes i called sirius and had them resend some code, and within 2 minutes, all of their channels came in fine.

that had me sweating for a little, but all in all it worked out okay. i really hope xm has better customer service than sirius.

Will painting the antenna effect the reception? Thinking about doing this as well. Wish Acura or BMW sold their color coordinated sat antennas seperately. Can't seem to find one on the net.

Installing mine this weekend and really don't want to drill on the exterior. Any issues with the reception on the back shelf. I have metallic tint so I'm a little concerned.

Painting the antenna will not affect the performance of the antenna.

Metallic tint can cause problems with the SAT radio installed on the interior. Best bet is check the reception, if you have no problem or major drop outs, throw it on the back shelf. If the tint messes with it, you have to go the exterior route. Personally, do not like any sat antennas on the outside. Also, never got the craze that some people have who do not have Sat radio....but they install a fake looking BMW shark antenna....non functional one....LOL.
