Just Installed Short Shifter

Ok, I mentioned this on another post but thought I'd start a new post as well. I just got a STS installed and it's by far the best mod you could do for a 6 speed 6 gen Max. The throw is about 35% shorter, but best of all it eliminates all the shifting annoyances in the 6th gen. No more grinding from 1st - 2nd, no more notchy shift feel, just smooth shifting in every gear. All the work is done under the hood, and there are no adjustments from the passenger cabin. The shifter still sits high as a result, but the throw is significantly shorter. All that is added is a linkage for the cable driven transmission that shortens the shift. Easy install can be done in about 30 minutes. I was a test fit for the machine shop that also produces parts for Nismo, so I'm not sure yet as to who will actually be selling the part. If I'm not mistaken, it's the same part as for the 04 Altima. You may want to PM Company Man for more details.

Here's a pic:

Go to www.fastshift.com. These are the guys that made my short shifter. I know the page isn't much, but all the company info is there. Ask for Steve.

Usually with an STS there is an increase in the effort required to shift gears. What if any changes occurred with this mod?

Honestly, it doesn't feel like I have to "force" the gears in. Maybe it's because it's cable driven. I've heard before that with other short shifters, it feels like you're "forcing" the shift, but I really can't tell a difference on this one.

Plain and simple. I love it! Shifting from 1st - 2nd is still a little stiff when cold, but a huge improvemnt from stock. Post your impressions after the install. I'm curious to see what you think of it.

This needs to be added to the growing list of STSs. All of the other ones go on the shifter inside the car. Since this one is made to go on the trans selector it could actually be used with one of the other ones on the shifter for an even shorter travel. If someone really wanted to do such a thing.

It was designed for the tranny to keep the reverse lockout intact. If you wanted to get rid of your reverse lockout, you could use my STS that bolts into the console, but you would have to change your console shifter out for a different one.

How much does it shorten the shift, in terms of percentage?

I havent seen any STS that changes the X axis travel in order to keep the reverse lockout. All of them seem to change the Y axis travel only.

So this would actually work with another short shifter? That would be insane, seems like that would be a lil overkill but would it work very good?

More Info

This will provide info on the 6th Gen shifter.
go to:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...spagename=WDVW

This is what we developed for the 5.5 Gen Max, anodized black, and sold thru my dealer. Take a look here:
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=358619

As far as doubling up on a second STS, you are probably looking at least another $300 dollars and there would be no reverse lockout. The problem with this setup is that the shifts are so quick and so short, you can start stressing your tranny because the shifts are always gonna be like your racing.

If NONE of the aftermarket shifter brackets change the X-Axis at all, HOW do you figure ANY of them would defeat the reverse lockout???????

And I may as well mention that this particular setup will cause more stress on the already fragile cable bracket that is mounted to the transmission.

heh, those definitions are kinda dumb.

A dumby variable can be any axis in a cartesian coordinate system. I can't believe that's even in the dictionary.
