rattle nosie and power question...

i was driving today in the snow for the first time..but as it gets colder and colder my car has this rattle nosie when i accelerate..seems like coming from muffler or engine..and now i have around 1600 miles on my car and it seems its not giving so m,uch power during 0-whatever miles..accerate is kinda slow..should i expect more power soon..after more miles>>?and whwat i this rattle nosie is it the STRUT BARS like everyone else..but 2005 models with 1600 miles only..damn...kinda sucks..and the tourque steer is crazy if u accelerate fast....and my car has hard time redlining the rpm..its a auto but other auto can redline if almost floored but if i kinda floor it it only hits 4~5 rpm..should i be able to higher hit rpm after more miles?

jonnie - I was hoping someone else would answer this, as you are inquiring in an area with which I have little familiarity. I have never attempted to 'redline' any Maxima (or any other car) I have ever owned, and I have driven nothing but Maximas for over twenty years. To be more specific, I would be tempted to kill anyone who redlined my Maxima.

I do know the 6th gen Maxima has protective programming in the onboard computer to prevent redlining until the car is completely broken in. That is to prevent damage that could be caused by abusing an engine that has not been broken in. I do not know how or when that protection is eased back.

I do remember your posts about running accelleration tests and racing with only 300 miles on the odo, and complaining you couldn't redline your Maxima at that time. It is possible you may have damaged the engine. If so, the onboard recorder data showing you came nowhere close to following the breaking specifications may well void your five year powertrain warranty.

Bad struts usually make a banging or knocking noise, or a squishing noise. I don't remember seeing anyone here with a rattling strut.

If you are lucky, the rattle may be a heat shield rattling against part of the exhaust system. that is a problem several here have reported. That would be easy for the dealer to fix.

However, if your Maxima has indeed lost power, that is not a good sign at all. But then you should expect problems, since you came nowhere remotely close to following the breakin stipulations. They are there for a reason.

Good luck with your situation.

Yeah...........lighten up or you'll end with questions and zero help from people that are only trying to help you in the first place.

Ah not BS. The ECU "keeps a history". All Nissan has to do is plug in the consult tool and they have the access to the history of your car

I would not let jonniewaka within a mile of my max......

And I can confirm that the Nissan consult tool can tap the history of your car. The vehicle records lots of info such as how many times the vehicle has been "redlined", average speed, number of times it has been started etc.....I used to be a factory rep for Nissan and I have dealt folks like jonniewaka before....."my car does not run right". All I had to do was have a teck plug in the consult II tool and the story was over.

Is this onboard recorder only on the 04+ maximas ? I am looking into getting a brand new max but thats pretty scary that they have that. There are good and bad sides to this I guess, now atleast I know to be careful with the car and not let anyone else drive it.

I'm no expert in these matters, but from what i've read, this exists on most new cars.

It is on all new cars sold in north america. Every new car back to I believe 1996 has this technology (although there is more in 2002+ cars).

Big brother is definately watching. Keep this in mind when you are street racing!!
