Hood Alignment
Hood Alignment
hey guys! I'm just wondering why the front-right side of the edge of the hood (just on top of the right headlight...) elevates just a little bit (like it becomes a bit malaligned) when I drive short distances (like 5-10miles) but not during longer drives. Anybody else have that problem? Thanks!
When I first got my 04' I noticed that the hood was out of alignment and "raised" slightly. I took it into the dealer and had them adjust the hood (for proper alignment) and the hood latch (to properly hold the hood from lifting). Now everything seems OK!
When you can see either front corner of your hood move while driving, then the cylindrical black rubber spacer inside that corner of the hood is not in contact with the car when the hood is closed.
Fortunately, these cylindrical spacers are easily adjustable. They look solid, but are actually threaded, and turning them clockwise (as viewed from underneath the hood) screws them further into the hood, while turning them counterclockwise brings more of the cylinder out from the hood.
It sounds like you need more of the cylinder out from the hood so it will reach the bare metal spot it is supposed to rest on when the hood is closed.
Play around with both these cylinders until the hood is in alignment with the fenders, and there is no flutter while driving.

I have that too. if your looking at the car is the right side its sitting alittle under the fender................. just hadn't had time to get it checked.......... I might get it looked at while they change the oil soon.....

joemax1 - I must admit your hood 'elevates only on short trips' problem does not sound like the typical hood 'flutter' problem. In fact, it doesn't sound like anthing I have heard before.
But the entire front of the hood is controlled by only three things: the two black cylinders discussed above, and the hood latch. Whatever is happening to the front of your hood has to be a function of one of those three things.
