"Quiet" free flow exhaust system

Suggestions? I take clients in my car occasionally and dont want to sound like I am going to the strip. But, I still want more power and better mileage if I can get it. Thanks.

Same dillema here. I have a CE y-pipe which didnt affect the sound too much. Its the mufflers Im concerned about.

It has been my observation that increased flow = more noise (and more power). The conditions that eliminate restrictions also let the noise through.

Not sure you can have low noise and high flow........I could be wrong, though.

Anyway, good luck and let us know what you find out.

Generally speaking I think its true that the more noise the better power. Its the exceptions Im looking for where someone designed an exhaust that muffles well but produces power too.

Hey guys... how bad is it? I mean does it sound as loud as a mustang or something (first thing that came to mind when i thought of noise). I want to upgrade and am willing to sacrafice for some cabin noise. I just do not want TOOO much yah know.

well if you read about the greddy exhaust it is supposed to be one of the quietest performance exhaust systems.

I'm curious as to what kind of gains we'd see if we retained the stock mufflers, but added mandrel bent piping from the cats back.

I've heard people complain about Stillen's high level of noise before. However, the exhaust for the 6th gen is very quiet. Hardly noticeable from stock. It's too bad you don't live in Socal, you could hear the car for yourself at Stillen. I was actually a little disappointed because it was too quiet, and I'm not a fan of loud, ricey exhausts.

I think eiher Magnaflow ir Dynomax would give the mellowest sound whil increasing flow / performance. The only thing with any free flowing muffler is you may get some cabin resonance at certain rpms,

If a G35 can squirt 280 hp out of a single muffler similar to what the Maxima has two of, how much gain can I expect from my Maxima with a pair of cop callers?

Tototee, I used to live in Northridge. Lived on Lassen for a few years and then moved to a condo on Reseda after the quake. Man I miss the Valley. City life in LA sucks. Anyways, Stillen is in Costa Mesa. You can check out their website for the exact address.

For those who want to hear it, this is a link with audio files on a Z that these guys put a Greddy system on. Sounds cool but I would say it's on the loud side for my clients.

I've seen the dyno numbers, but did you feel like you got noticeable gain out of the Y pipe? Thanks.

For the Stillen, you are just talking about the mufflers, right? Thanks.

Sol: Noticeable responsiveness and power gain. Worth it for 200 bucks.

Yes, it is a rear section only as opposed to a full cat-back.

Just curious. Seems like the smart money would be between the cat and the mufflers. Possibly a Y-pipe too.

Anyone?

The stock exhaust has a big crimp in it and I think it robs the car of power. I know I felt a gain when I installed the exhaust. But, you could just get the crimp removed and install a highflow resonator and get a y pipe and probably gain a decent amount on power. This is just a guess though because I dont have the y pipe yet but I know it should give at least a 10 hp gain.

I know there are Supertrapp mufflers with removable diffuser disks. I have owned several. Better for racing applications I think.

I removed my resonator on my 02 3.5 altima and it did not make any difference in the sound or performance and the resonator on that car is about 3 and a half feet long. I figured yanking that thing off would do something but no nothing
