window tint

I recently had my max tinted and was a little let down because of the gap around the third brake light. I realize that it is illegal to tint over the brake light, but I don't like the 1/4 inch gap from where the tint stops and the light is. The tint shop cut it kind of crappy and I asked them if it was possible for them to tint without cutting out for the brake light and the guy said that they would have to take apart the whole rear deck assembly to get the light out and tint the whole window. It seems like there is enough space to just press the tint on the window without major surgery on the my max's rear end. For any others with tinted windows: Do you also have a cutout for the 3rd brake light? If not did the your tint shop have to take anything apart on your car to tint the whole window?
The tint dude said it would cost a lot more $$$ to do it how I wanted.....I think he is full of it and I just wanted to see what others had to say before I tell him what's up.......Don't mess with the Budweiser guy.

The thrid brake light pops off with some help of a screw driver. Not much force is needed and after that all thats is left is a wire connector. I'm using the wing off a G35 which has a bilt in brake light so I removed my Max's third brake light and had the whole window tinted.

I took out my third brake light before I tinted my windows on my 04. I've been tinting since 1975 and if I can remove the third light or the complete rear deck, that's the only way I do it. I can't believe that some tinters don't take the time to pull out a light that only takes a minute to remove! It's not like they had to remove the whole rear deck! If you paid big bucks to have your windows done and the film is still fresh I would have it removed and redone! I'd want it done the right way even if I had to pay to get it done again!! (which you shouldn't have to). There's my two cents!!

Yo, definietly a slack job by your tinter......It's no problem to remove the light, and any shop which was serious about getting the job done right and so it looked right would have taken the minute to remove the light........There's no way I would have allowed them to slack me........cause it does look whack with the hole cut out.........That's my two pennies....

Yeah, they just popped out the light, nothing major. I was going to mention it before I got mine tinted but decided not to because I didn't want to insult them by thinking they'd actually be lame enough to cut out around the light.

BAH! I just tinted the whole window. I hate the way the tint looks on the 3rd gen with the brake light cut out.

Its NOT illegal to tint over the TBL. Our light simply pops out. Theres nothing to it. Id take it back or have someone else do the rear glass again. I see cars sometimes with the tint around the light and I think it looks like ****!!! Dont let them get you man...

I did the same thing before I went to the place. The back window is solid from top to bottom now even behind the powder coating pattern up top. Cutting around the light looks like ***.

hey guys....I getting my windows tinted this weekend and wanted to make sure there isn't anything I should worry about on the back window. I have already told them, I would like for them to pop off the brake light and that wasn't a problem. What I'm really concerned about is the dots at the top of the windows (front and rear). Is there something I should suggest to them?

Instead of doing the whole window over again you could just put really dark tint in the spot where there is none and cut out a word or design in the darker tint. i think I saw one on this site that said "MAXIMA" in the tint behind the brake light. Use your own creativity and make something original out of a junk tint job. take it to a better shop and have them just do the darker black tint. Shouldn't cost very much for such a small area of custom tint.

I just got mine done last weekend. The place I went to removed the brake light and tinted over the light. As far as the dots on top, they cut the film right where the dots start. If they would have tinted over it, it wouldn't have looked good. On a side note, that back window is a pain to windex from inside.

Pop out Rear brake lite

If you look in the owners manual that came with the car there's a section on changing lite bulbs. It tells you how to remove the rear brake lite. You push it back towards the window, then pull up and the whole assembly comes out.

Dude, thats the tint guy is trying to punk you, if your press lightly around the ase of the brake light, you can pop it out then unplug it from the connector, The 2 sides (L&R) can also be popped out and away so that the complete back window can be done WITHOUT removing the rear deck assembly. He's fishing for bucks, tell him your not biting... My whole tint job cost me $175 installed and the tint shop used a computer aided machine to laser cut the film to the exact factory window spec size. Since the machine laser cuts everything, it also cuts the install time in half. Since I don't live in WI, you can tell the tint guy I said to go F&%K a cow! Or not.

Option B, go someplace else...

Does anyone know what % tint is on the skyview roof? Just curious. Don't mean to hijack, but I figured it was related.
