Se's Tip Tronic
Can someone clarify this for me, I say no, but on my 05 maxima SE I am arguing with somebody that tiptronic does not make the car faster one bit. The only thing possibly is holding a gear at highway speeds, but from the start switiching it yourself the shifts are ridiculously slow. It's defense though but if you slap it into tiptronic mode and just let the car shift by itself, it does seem like it possibly a little bit faster.
Thanks fellas

I think you meant to say : "but if you slap it out of tiptronic mode and just let the car shift by itself, it does seem like it possibly is a little bit faster."
I have wondered about this, but having the 6-speed manual trannie, could only wonder. My reason for the manual trannie is CONTROL. Even with tiptronic, you can't start in second (or even third) gear to reduce wheel spin in the snow.

Tiptronic
No, I actually ment when you slap it into tiptronic mode, if you dont shift it by a certain rpm, the car shifts on its own. It seems in that mode you actually get a little bit more power out of it because im pretty sure it shifts like 200 rpm later than when in regular D.
Just bought my first Maxima 2 weeks ago. I traded in my 2000 Sentra for the 2006 Maxima. I decided on the SL basically because of the comfort features. (yeah, I'm getting old).
I have to say that I am in LOVE with this car. I only have about 750 miles on the car, but this has got to be one of the best cars I've ever owned.

I don't recall my car every shifting for itself. i've accidentally hit the rev limiter on mine because i'd forget i had it in tiptronic... hmmmm.. am I wrong? I'm about to take mine for a spin to check...
We test drove both models, and sure enough the SL was quite a bit smoother. I felt that my wife's 05 Altima was a bit rough just like the SE. I really liked the 18" chrome wheels but still wanted the softer ride. My other car is a 64 Mercury wich is much much softer but forget cornering like the Maxima!!!!.
One thing I noticed though, both 05 Altima and Maxima are "loud" inside. I am always wondering if a door/window is not quite closed. Has anybody experienced this and tried to add sound insulation?

I should also have mentionned that I like the wood interior. Just not quite enough of it though. The center console looks fine as is, but something accross the dash to tie in with the door accent would have been nice. I looked at the kits, but found that they really overdo it.

While you can argue that higher-profile tires might ride softer (since the taller sidewalls have more flex), they definitely don't provide better grip. Reason is the same one that makes them ride a little better - those taller, softer sidewalls flex and degrade both cornering and absolute grip.
That's why the best grip figures in car tests are always those cars with the low-profiles.
correlation?
I wonder if the survey data on this site corresponds with the actual ratio or SE's sold to SL's sold. I doubt that there are twice as many SE's sold as SL's. Perhaps there is an age and internet/computer variable that is skewing the results toward the SE numbers.
