Extended "service" contracts

I have a 04 Maxima that I purchased 2/04. I recently went to a dealer and purchased the extended warranty for 7/100K since I really like this car. Yes, I got a good price on it.

I just received in the mail the disclosure document and it in BOLD letters indicated that this was a "SERVICE" contract not an extended warranty. It also indicates they can refuse service if I don't keep the car on Nissan maintenance schedule and have receipts. Now I'm concerned, especially the "service" VS. "extended warranty" statement.

Anyone purchase this? Any thoughts on it?

Never buy something from the dealership concerning warranties....they're all money scams....plus you probably have a deductable you have to pay first before you get something "serviced" or "warrantied".

I disagree. I had an "extended warranty" on my previous Explorer. Cost me about $800. At about 50,000 miles the transmission when out. Saved me a BUNCH of money by having that warranty.

In fact of the last 5 cars I have purchased, only once did I not save money by buying the warranty. Of course, the Maxima might be the second one....

Contract

I purchased the Gold 7year - 100K mileage package with zero deductible. Cost was $1300. My thinking was that I want to keep this car at least 7-8 years and I drive between 12-14K a year. This would give me the coverage needed past the typical 3/36 warranty.

in your case and mine, it's Service Plans [extended], Nissan also has Maintenance Plans
