3 things regarding my VQ. HELP!!!

I noticed my tiptronic shifter clicks everytime I come to a stop, or if you depress the brake while in park/netural. Also my first strut finally died! Lastly, I've always had mild ping at 1500rpm, the dealer wont really admit it, but it doesnt bother me much, if that means my cars running a bit tweaked out.

1) Some people notice that it's normal on their autos to have the clicking noise. So can I argue for them to fix it, or will it just fall under the "it's normal category?" (note: the tranny runs fine, just bit annoying.)

2) How long does it take them to fix the strut? I think it's only the driverside....

3) My car pings even with top gas in cold weather, does this mean im running like 18degrees or something, and my car might even have advanced timing included?

thanks

My car clicks when I press the break pedal to shift out of park when i first start the car...Never bothered me because it sounds normal and it always happens. As for the shifter clicking when you come to a stop, my car does not do that.

strut: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=371534 1 hour to fix

personally, i wouldn't put up with pinging or clicking. I'd stop by everyday until they fixed it.

This sounds almost normal. You don't say, but I suspect you have an Auto Trannie as they let you drive at those RPMs.

I'm driving at 6,000 feet elevation and higher and burning 85 octane regular. Following standard SAE practice, add an effective octane unit for every thousand feet increase in elevation. This means that the 85 octane at 6000 feet acts like 91 octane at sea level. My Max exhibits light pinging under load (climbing a hill in 3rd gear) when the RPM falls below about 1800 and the weather is warm. No ping with the same conditions in cold weather. So I'm not surprised you're getting light pinging at 1500 RPM. When I hear the ping, I downshift to 2nd gear in my 6-speed.

You don't want to keep driving with the ping, so downshift to stop the ping.

The Pinging is the only thing I would worry about, as you are already getting the other worry part fixed.

The clicking noise is the shift lock unlocking (the lock that keeps you from moving the gear out of Park, up to reverse while in N or Drive, and up to park if in reverse.)

I have the same “clicking” noise when coming to a complete stop. I posted the problem awhile back, but haven’t complained to the dealer yet. Let us know if you take it in. It would be interesting to see if this annoyance can be fixed.

ive asked the mechanic before about the strut up here in CANADA, and he said he has NEVER heard of this happening, and i should STOP hearing things on USA basied forums... : / so im afraid that, if i take it in for repair, would they bull**** me saying the strut is my own fault, and make me pay?

I have a problem with my right front strut and I will be dropping my Maxima off at the stealership tomorrow night.
I asked them if Nissan has new struts for the Maxima and the serive department confirmed that Nissan does have new struts for the Maxima and they confirmed that they will be replacing both front struts on Wednesday.
It sounds like your mechanic needs to pull his head out.
