Black 18" Wheels?

I am considering changing the factory shoes on my black max, but I think I want to stay with the 18". I think the ride is bumpy enough so I don't really want to compromise the ride any further.

Has anyone changed the factory wheel and stayed with an 18"? Also, what do you think of black wheels on the black Max?

I am looking at the Gianelle V-5B (see attached link).

Thoughts???

Nice rims, i also have a black maxi and was looking for some deep dish black rims. 18's are cool but since they are black, they are gonna look smaller than your stock rims. Im going for 20's.

Good point about the black wheel appearing smaller! I was trying to be frugal and keep my factory tires, but I guess I'll go ahead and invest in a set of 20's.

Thanks for your input!

Gould,

I was asking the same question a few months ago. The best thing I heard was someone saying, "they stayed with 18's, and not 2 mintures after having them put on, they wished they went bigger."

That said, I split the difference and went with 19's. I did have to get new tires (deals galore on Ebay) and I went from 45 to 40 on the height.

The ride is a little firmer, but not enough to bug me.

Now I have to drop it and lose the gap! Hope this helps. See the pics here..

Good point! I like the way the 20's look. I'll probably go with those then.

How much do you plan on lowering your car? Any pics???

I changed the se wheels to 18's...kept the same RSA wheels as well. No problems (shimmy) whatsoever.

Those are sharp! Like I said thogh, I think the black wheels will look smaller than the factory 18's.

When I decide later this week, I'll forward pics. I am waiting to get it back tomorrow. I am getting new speakers, alarm, tint, & radar installed.

Gould,

The standard drop for the Maxima is 2.0 on the front, 0.8 on the back with the Eibach springs. Most people have them already, im next.

http://www.cardomain.com/id/jmax04 Pics are here....

I do agree, that with black rims, especially those sweet daddys you picked, you would be happier if you went bigger than 18.

Here ya go. My black Max with black 20's. I say go with 20's instead of 18's. I still have people that always think my rims are 18's or even 17's!

That looks really nice. I see you also got the eibach pro kit. Does it rub at all? How does that effect the car's warranty?

I'd love to do that as well as long my warranty is not affected.

Is the ride a lot different than with the factory springs?

Thanks for the info!

Ditto. I have the same concerns. You are running a +35 offset on the wheels, correct?

I know I've read about the Eibach springs possibly causing the stock struts to blow. Can you confirm this? I'll be putting 20" wheels on in a couple of weeks. I like the lowered look but I need to know if I should just buy the Eibach springs and get them installed or wait to get the Koni struts too and get them all done at the same time.

Oh, and did they give you an ETA on getting your ride back?

I stayed with 18s because I was looking for performance in the form of lighter weight and performance is what I got. The car is noticably quicker off the line. I went with a slightly lower profile tire too. When the car is dropped next month it will look even better.

Thanks guys, to answer all your questions: Yes Ive got the Eibach Pro-kit. Still have the stock struts, money is tight right now but upgraded shocks/struts are in mind still. I believe the warranty issue will depend on your local dealer. If you had a problem before you put the springs on then you should be covered. So far I have no problems with my struts. Ive had the springs on about a month now. I guess it depends on your location and the types of roads you have. Its all smooth here in my area. Ive heard different stories of strut problems. Some have them, some dont. That topic has been discussed here already. http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=340880

No it does not rub at all. The ride is still nice to me. Not too stiff or bouncy, just firm. No complaints coming from my way. It handles a hell of a lot better in the fast corners too! The Max actually sticks to the road in acceleration and in the turns.

ETA on the repairs of my car....about 3 weeks. Hopefully, if they dont find anything else. Just keeping my fingers crossed.
