Lowering the SL

To the guys that have lowered the SL I was wondering if there were any issues with scraping on the front end? At first glance, it would seem that the slashguards might be an issue....

Would lowering the SL required me to put on bigger wheels to avoid too many scraping issues?

I was thinking about lowering mine and there are already a couple of places that I frequent where the front scrapes very lightly when I drive there. Makes me think that they'll take the front lip right off if I lower the front... I suppose I could avoid those places, but I don't wanna be one of those people...

The other day I think I was picking up snow from some streets that weren't cleaned fully... although I suppose that's not a problem you'd have... I think people on the NE had problems with car washes (which you have to use around here, unless you wash your car yourself in 20° weather ) but that's also something that can be remedied by jacking the car up in the winter and lowering it in the summer.

Also, to the guys that have both lowered and bought bigger wheels on the SL....

1) Do you lower the car first, then buy tires, or vice versa?
2) Assuming you lower the car (I think everyone is lowering 1.5in front and .75in back), what size tires/wheels can fit without any rubbing??

thanks,

I lowered and got wheels at the same time...I did run with stock wheels for a couple of months in between wheels though.
I'm running 245/35/20 and have no rubbing issues. Some guys running 255's say the rear rubs with adults in the back...
As for the front end scraping, mine clears parking blocks fine and with curbs the small spoiler underneath sometimes rubs. (very minor)
As far as the front end scraping in certian areas that you drive, you just need to learn how to handle those types of driveways/inclines. Just enter at an angle and you'll be fine...no scraping!!

Thanks for your reply jsmithsole, how much did you lower the front? Did you lower the back as well? And where did you get your wheels at?

thanks,
