Warped brakes or warped dealership!!

I took the max into the dealership today to have the rotors turned due to warpage. not a big surprize. What I am cuious about is why they changed the calipers?????? Is there a problem with the calipers causing the rotors to warp?

Anyone else had the calipers changed when they went in to have the rotors turned?

So you got free calipers? Bonus! Hope they came with new rotors and pads too. That would be sweet.

anybody got warped brake disks again after disks were turned(resurfaced)?
I think i have slightly warped brake rotors. steering wheel shakes kinda hard only when I put on a brake little hard at high speed.

I hope the dealer replaces the rotors, but if resurfacing the rotors solve the problem permanently then it's fine too...

I had the same problem on my previous car. I just went ahead and replaced the rotors and pads myself. I didn't even try to get the dealer to do anything since I figured parts like rotors weren't covered by the warranty. If they'll cover it, I'd push for new rotors if I were you.

They did not replace the rotors, they just turned them. I did get new pads though. not bad for having 15,000 miles on the old pads.

Most dealers will true the rotors upon first warping w/in 16k miles. The next visit they may replace them. It's left up to them and Nissan agrees with their decision.

I just ordered slotted rotors and Ultimate pads from AutoMax_95. (If he gets enough 6th gen orders, he'll do a GD for us...) My rotors are holding strong at 11k miles. So I doubt I'll need anything done in the next 5k.

I use my brakes as little as possible. I always plan ahead and try to roll to a stop. I reduce gears when slowing abruptly or steep declines.

I go straight to the car wash and try not to use the brakes beforehand when I rinse her down. (hard water at home requires me to wash elsewhere). hosing hot brakes will warp them.

If some of you are braking hard enough, you may be inducing the ABS. ABS and rough roads at stops cause rattling, not warped rotors.

Dealed turned rotors at 12,000; warp came back about 20k. It was easier just to go ahead and buy good rotors than mess with the dealer.

Turning them will true them, but chances are very high that the warp will return.

Most (Nissan) dealerships will resurface 6th gen rotors the first time they warp... it's like they're expecting them to -- which they should, since they're crap. Mine warped at just shy of 10k miles and the dealership didn't even flinch about turning them.

I'm at around 20k now and I'm sure when (not if) they warp again they'll want to charge me for new rotors, so I'm not even considering going that route, just gonna get a set of aftermarket ones instead.

My dealership just replaced them. The said they didn't want me coming back in a few months with the same problems again. Got new pads at the same time too.

I consider myself to be very easy on the brakes, actually this is my first time having warped brake disks. I always thought drivers are someway responsible for warped rotors. I tried not to be hard on brakes always(although hard braking is not avoidable sometimes)

anyways...
most of the dealers(not just nissan) will just resurface the rotors. i also
expect my dealer to resurface mine. I just don't want them to be warped
again after resurface. I'm just annoyed by not-friendly dealer and 2-3 hrs of
waiting in the lounge...

The driver plays a part, but if the rotors are assy to begin with, or they're not mounted properly, it makes them easier to warp. But I agree with you though... driving like a madman on the highway then getting home and throwing the e-brake on while everything is still lava hot is probably an easy way to guarantee warped rotors.

IMO it depends on the dealer and their policies. Most Nissan dealerships around here will only resurface rotors once (for free), and that's if you bought the car there and it's under a year or low mileage. Where I bought mine, they had a 12k miles/1 year period, after that you're on your own.

My other car's warranty would cover everything up to 50k miles, but they wouldn't cover wear parts (brakes, exhaust, etc). And they wouldn't resurface either...

O.K. I may being doing something dumb. I always apply my emergency brake when in park. Habit and I've been told it's easier on the tranny when on an incline. Is this bad for the rotors?

good question. i never use my eBarake except when working underneath.
not sure...

The main reason a large amount of rotors warp (like Nissan's) is poor manufacturing. If the metal isn't produced properly, they are more prone to warping. some get lucky and receive well made oem ones. others, well, they warp.

It depends... In my personal experience, if you work the brakes a lot, and they're hot as hell when you get to the house, throwing in the e-brake couldn't possibly be good, could it?

I could be wrong, but I better err on the side of caution. Don't get me wrong, rotors are a lot cheaper than a new tranny, so if there's an incline the rotors can warp to all hell for all I care... I'm throwing that puppy.

You should always use ebrake when stopped Rear brakes don't get nearly as hot as front, remember.
