6 Gen Brake Calipers!

Ok, all you 6-genners. I want your calipers.

I've been considering brake upgrade options, and I have settled on simply swapping out my stock calipers and rotors for 6 gen stock calipers and some aftermarket 6 gen rotors. My only problem now is finding a set of 6 gen calipers.

I know that most of you who do brake upgrades keep your stock calipers, so I won't have much luck finding a used set from the Org, but surely somebody here on the 6 gen boards can give me a tip on where to find the best deal on 6 gen rotors (besides scouring junkyards for wrecked cars... which is what I may end up doing).

Just FYI: $30K means $30,000 and even if he meant Canadian dollars that will make it $24,873.56 in U.S. dollars according to today's exchange rate.

How's about I sell you mine for $20,000 U.S. dollars. lol!

Just playing...

Lol. I know K means thousand. My joke about the Canadian exchange rate was just an equally silly response to the proposition that I should buy his calipers for the price of his entire car.

Mine were at 65% in the front at 11k miles (I think 75% in the rear). I'm gonna have them checked out again next week when I take the car in for some regular maintenance. And that was with hard driving... lots of it highway and some stop & go city. If it holds then I'm looking at about just before 30k before the fronts have to get replaced. That's actually pretty good IMO.

Guest Brakes? I haven't heard of them. I'm going to assume that Guest is an aftermarket company? I wanted to go with OEM 6th gen calipers. The only reason I need them is because I'm going with 6th gen front rotors, and the OEM 5.5th gen calipers won't work with them.

You're in Lawrenceville too? I've only see a few 6th gens around here.

Maybe he meant Quest instead of Guest . Ebay is a source you might want to keep checking for the calipers once and awhile.

sorry, meant 04' nissan quest brakes. the bolts location should fit right up. but
the caliper/pads are bigger. the quest pad length is 5.2in, width 2.11, and thickness is .39in. As for the maxima its 4.37in, 2.46in, and 0.37in. the rotors are exact size.

yea i'm off sugarloaf & 120

I haven't looked at Quest brakes yet. The main reason I wanted to go with 6th gen calipers and rotors is because they will bolt up to the stock 5.5th gen without any modification, and they should fit under the stock 17'' SE wheels (barely). If the Quest rotors are the same size as the 6th gen Max rotors, then they should fit fine, but even if the calipers have the same bolt locations, I haven't checked to make sure they'll clear the wheels. From your description, they should fit fine. I'll have to look into it.

man I would pm IRISH44, he did the swap. and I don't think the rear 17'' rim will fit on.. send him a pm before anything cause he had a prob with fitment...

EDIT: even with the g35 18's he got they didn't fit just like that, he had to put spacers for those rims. so do yourself a favor...

Rotors on the new Quest are 290x28. The Max is 320x28.

So I doubt the Quest calipers would clear the larger diameter of the Max rotors.

FWIW....the rear calipers use different type of parking brake mechanism the previous gen maxima (hub drum type) so it woudl basically eliminate your parking brake if you went and swapped it, not a comforting thought.

The 5th gen guys don't want 6th gen rear calipers. We just want the fronts. We know the rears are completely different on the 6th gen. Besides, the rear brakes on a 6th gen aren't much bigger than the ones on the 5.5th gen, so swapping them out wouldn't make much of a difference.
