Rust on the exhaust...

Hey,

I have a 2005 maxima, and it was raining alot everyday after i just bought it. Within a month, I noticed rust forming on the tips of my exhaust pipes so I took it in to ask about it. THEY TOLD ME IT'S NORMAL AND ALL MAXIMA'S HAVE IT. I looked around at other maxima's at the malls and parking lots, and I don't see any rust. Do any of you have the same problem?? And if that's the case, am I able to get it replaced?? I keep turning it in to ask about it because the rust is getting worse. and they keep telling me it's normal. I mean, I paid over 30 grand for this car and I wasn't expecting it to start rusting in a couple weeks...

: No rust here! I live in buffalo, undercarriage has seen lots of saltwater. Why dont ya try using some chrome polish to get rid of it, or is it all decayed?

i got rust...
and a NUMEROUS amount of other stuff too... looks like i have a LOT of tuning up to do around here.

soon i'm going to have some aftermarket mufflers and 2.5" piping from the custommaxima y-pipe though... getting mufflers is probably your best bet if the people at the dealership you bought your car from are screwing you over.

have you tried going to another dealership and asking??? can you even do that??

my situation

I have just over 8K miles on my 2005 SL. There is a small amount of rust on the inner exhaust tail, but no rust on the outer, chromed sleeve.

I got on the inside. I just scrub it really hard when I wash it. Looks brand new.

Hey guys, all stock maxima exhausts are going to rust. They are not stainless steel. Someone correct me if I am wrong.(I want proof) If they sold a SS exhaust on all stock maximas, you would see that 300-600 price increase on the window sticker.
I would just wait it out and get a good aftermarket SS exhaust when you can.

Thanks for all of your info. Yeah, after I read your post, I tried scrubbing the inside, but there's still rust, so I guess I have to scrub harder

Guess I'll settle w/ the aftermarket exhaust. Although the cops here are pretty strict about ANYTHING aftermarket. lol...So i don't have to worry about the exhaust crumbling to pieces or deteriorating after 5 years do I? heh

But anyway, thanks

Oh yeah, another thing, i wonder if this problem is only on maximas? because my mom had a nissan quest. we had it for over 5 yrs till we sold it - no exhaust rust problems at all... hmmm....
