Looking for suggestions on exhaust mod

I have an '05 all stock SE. I'm looking to upgrade the exhaust mostly to get a better sound and improve the look since I don't care a whole lot for the look of the stock tailpipes. I've never done a mod and don't feel adventurous so whatever I end up getting will be installed by a shop.

I live in SoCal so Stillen is on my list since they are close but I was wondering what you guys with any of the two aftermarket options they are offering think? Does it make sense to have them do the install or some other shop? I'd like something with a throatier note than the stock setup offers but I don't want something real loud. I also don't care if I get any power gains either although more power (however little) is welcome. Finally, how do you like the look of the tailpipes after the install? Any pics would be appreciated.

There are quite a number of options. I personally like twin oval tips on each side like the Mercedes E55. I have been working with Stromung exhaust in Huntington Beach and Cattman Performance in developing an exhaust system for the 6th generation Maxima. We took my exhaust off my 05 Maxima and put our heads together to develop a cat back system. I think its really going to be good and it should be available at Cattman Performance in a month or two. Ill keep you all posted as to the time frame for development.

Actually I heard the Magnaflow was looking for a Maxima to develop a system on. It was a while back but you might want to give them a call...

When we took off the stock maxima exhaust it was kind of horrifying. There is an area that is so squashed, it looks like a truck tir ran over it. Lots of crimps in the system. Im looking forward to a good flowing exhaust. As usual, Ill keep all posted as to development dates and Ill take pics too.

I've got a custom pipe done by a shop here in SoCal...and have the dual ovals from magnaflow...sometimes it gets too loud to bare...if it's been a long day and you feel like some peace and quiet. Took off the resonator and put a larger pipe from front to back...more power...but extremely loud...no tickets yet though, thank God

sparq,

larger pipe? larger than the 2.25 that was on it........... did you have to get a magnaflow muffler at that diameter also...

No..they crimped the pipe right before the inlets, but because the mufflers are the 'straight through' design it doesn't create too much of a bottle neck in the flow....or so it was explained to me
I believe it was a 2.5 pipe that they put on.
