Does anyone smoke?
#9
Strange this question appears at this time. The state of Georgia just today passed regulations that prohibit all smoking in all public places except for bars, clubs, businesses employing less than ten people where the public comes only by appointment, a special room at Atlanta Airport, and restaurants where no one under age 18 is permitted.
I have not allowed smoking in my vehicles since 1958. Whenever cars did come with an ash tray, I modified it to become a coin holder. At my age, I have seen far too many cohorts, friends and family die horrible deaths from lung cancer. Some were in their forties, many in their fifties.
I have only sympathy and understanding for smokers. It is an extermely difficult habit to break, and smokers these days are often treated like third-class citizens.
I'm not trying to be 'noble' here; I have as many faults as the next guy (such far too many sweets, as well as 24 or more ounces of Pepsi each day).
For my total avoidance of smoking, I am very grateful to my dear aunt, who filled the house I grew up in with putrid smoke, then died of lung cancer. I will never forget that lesson.
Several vehicles offer 'smoking packages' as a special order option, but I don't believe this is available on the 6th gen. It might be that one could 'juryrig' an ash tray in the dash storage box just in front of the console. But it would have to be made of metal and allow no sparks to drop onto the felt lining of that compartment.
Another possibility would be to convert one of the two console cupholders by fashioning a 'form-fitting' cup of metal, leaving a tab/handle on the lip to facilitate lifting it for emptying.
Good luck in finding a satisfactory solution.

In Japan, they sell a crapload of ashtrays that fit in a cupholder. I am sure you could find that sort of junk on the web somewhere if you really want to smoke in your car.
I smoke a little (like 4 cigarettes a day, and I still can't seem to break that stupid habit), and I do not smoke in my car either. Makes it smell, even if you never use the ashtray.

Like folks said...they sell ash trays that fit in standard cup holders like at Target, Walmart, etc., but your going to get ashes all over the console area, the smoke is going is going to get into all the cloth/velvet interior and cloth seats if you have them (good luck to get that smell out if you ever sell it), you'll possibly burn your leather or cloth seats...I would do what the other person said here...don't smoke in the Max...it's too nice of a car to trash...

I can't believe you want to ruin the nice smell of the Max with smoke. I used to be a regular smoker, but now I smoke only when I drink beers. I never smoked in my Grand Prix GTP and will never smoke in the Max. Why would you want to risk burning the seats and making the Max smell horrible. Plus, not smoking in your car will help you cut down a lot which is probably a good idea anyway.

The problem is I like cigars not cigarettes. The ashes are too big and dangerous to throw out the window. Also I don't allways finish the cigar so I would like a place to put it. I do use an ionic air purifier and fabreze works well.

Hey you can definately buy an ashtray designed to sit in the cupholder, my mom has one. It has a flip top lid too. You could prolly find one that fits perfectly in one of the cupholders, and it can be hidden from view when you close the door over the holders.'

So spray fabreeze all over your interior? That's a lot of work to do to smoke in the Max...and the ionic purifier...that just purifier's the air...won't help the interior cloth and such, and does the fabreeze take the smell out? My buddy worked at a rental car agency and they would do that on some of their rentals...and it still didn't get the smell out...

If he wants to smoke in this car, hes gonna do it anyway...i mean, i'd never ever do it..
When I first got the car, about 3 months into owning it i picked up a chick for a date...this girl asked me if she could light up in my car. She was quite atractive and nice but the answer was still a flat out NO...and I told her this is a brand new car...(annoyed). Shes lucky I let her keep her shoes on!

I heard smoking is bad for you
besides, I hate being inside a smoker's car.
so are you really going to Fabreze your headliner, reardeck, door panels, carpet, mats, seatbelts, and seats? Then you'll have to clean your windows to get the mist off, get vinyl/plastic cleaner for every other surface....
but yeah, like others said, your cup holder would be the best location. Maybe you can do a tinfoil-cupholder-wrap-mod?

Confession time...
Ive got 2 burns on the "suede-like" door panel on my drivers side. Ya, it sucks, and I hate it but I still smoke in it. Regular trips to Mr Car Wash help with the smell and window film.
But hey, im getting closer to the quitting part, already stopped drinking almost 2 yrs ago....just cant let go of the smokes yet!!

Smoke em if you got them. I do not smoke anymore in cars after burning a hole in one of my older cars seats a month after I got it, but easy to put a ash tray in the cupholder area...or, just a nice humidor in the center area like ramberg did. Hey, I still enjoy a nice Cohiba or Romeo Y Julieta every now and again.
I am a Copenhagen guy....my cup holder works for me.
