No Notch! My console box (really exciting)

Is my car the only one with no notch for a cell phone wire to pass under the armrest cover? Here is the pic Nismo.

i have that but the sucky thing is, that you cannot take the wire out of the glove box so you could actually see your phone while it is charging...what i usually do is just straighten the coiled wire a little and put it in the corner of the cover and close it on it...

well I'll be a monkey's uncle. wow, that simply blows my mind. well, my 5/04 build has it.

actually if you notice, you even have that hole in the back corner that I don't. i have a slot on the driver side going into the top (that I guess you don't have either) and the same front slot coming out. that's what you have to use i guess instead of the back hole.

I have my power cord coming up into the shelf on the side, then i have my ear-piece coming out from the slot you don't have.

Amazing.

Carcus..whens your build date? Mine being a 6/03, im wondering who has the earliest built maxima? We need to see how far back in 2003 the maxima was made, perhaps all made 6/03 and before had no slot, then they smartened up. But hey, i dont have strut problems..maybe that problem occured when they started slottin them.

Nismo, I got the hole in the back corner of the tray (and it has a snap shut trap door on it) and I also have a slot on the side wall, also leading to the bottom, and the cord could come up through that too. Soo they must have changed the tray and the console too. Do these cars have a # on them?

6th gen were avail. 3/03. lol @ slot=bad struts.

I'm jealous of your trap door. although w/ all the junk i carry, i would still use the side slot.

I would miss the front notch since i use it for my earpiece.
but even if u had it to bring the phone out, where would you keep it?
you still have the front hole access to the bottom.

our cars do have a #... VIN #. but it's unadviseable to post it on the net.
the build month on the inside door sticker would be sufficient to
calculate when the armrest changed.

so far I see 9/03 w/ the notch. so it must have occurred pretty early.
(of course he typed slot, not notch) the mystery continues.....
who has the oldest 03 build w/ the trap door and no notch????????

Just curious, why the mystery over the VIN not being safe over the net.. can you take over Ownership or something with it?

I dunno man, I can walk up and look at anyone's VIN in person..I know on the V8SHO forum theres 100's of VINs floating all over the place because of the CAM failure and class action lawsuit, but its for all eyes to see. So the super long VIN goes in order from first built to present? probobly just a portion of the VIN, so if we knew what portion of it was the build number that would be enough. Ill photo the slot, its on the driver side, it looks more like a slot than a door, becasue its on a vertical surface, and looks similar to a coin slot on a vending machine, sorta.

I picked up my 04 SL April 03 (build date March) - I have the slot on the driver's side (which is useless as any wiring would be pinched when closing the console cover) and the notch in the front with the hole to extend wires through just like in the pic, but no trap door...wish i did...no strut problems though (so far and knock on wood)!

the plot thickens...
the side slot does not get pinched, it's for keeping something plugged in,
staying in the shelf. but you have no trap door? hmmm

so we have somewhere between 6/03 and 9/03 the notch was added.
but the trap door was an add on after 3/03 that was removed before
9/03.....

Damn, Well the trap door is a simple switch of the tray that drops into the console...The notch is a whole different console change...thats the real unbelievable one. Nismo, Razz has a 3/03 car (first month, right?) with a notch he said! So some had notches right off the bat, and heres mine made 3 months later without one?

NO NO NO, you guys are screwing up the investigation.

Raz said just like your pic. he is confusing the hole from beneath with the notch.
his 3/03 has no notch!!! the notch was a change w/in the range i stated.

ok, here's what started it all so you see the difference:

Assembly of the 6th gen Maxima began in mid-January, 2003. By the end of February 2003, Nissan had assembled a quantity sufficient to enable most dealers to have at least one car. The first one I saw being unloaded on my dealer's back lot was on March 5th, 2003. He said he couldn't sell it until March 8th, 2003. I didn't ask why.

So the earliest 'doorframe' assembly date (open the driver's door, look inside the door opening at the base of the 'B' pillar) is 0103 (Jan, 2003). The earliest 'sell' date was March, 2003.

The latest assembly date for the '04 was 0704 (July, 2004). The earliest assembly date for the '05 was also 0704 (July, 2004). The conversion of the assembly line from assembling '04s to '05s was easily done, and the line was down only a brief period.

The first '05 was unloaded at my dealer's lot on August 8th, 2004. Within two or three weeks, my dealer had 16 '05s on the lot. By late September of 2004, he had 26 '05 Maximas on hand.

With more visible facia changes (and probably several other tweaks) on the '06, the assembly line may be down for a few weeks for the conversion from '05s to '06s. I have heard nothing on when this will happen, but would expect it might again be July of this year.

Correction... I have both a notch AND a trap door... pic (might be a bit hard to see since it's closed, but look for the horizontal slot neat the upper right of the insert...):

So they had a trap door up until atleast 9/03.... and the notch was added on or before 9/03.... hmm..

Also, I've heard people say that you can pass wires through the hole on the outside of the console (and that it has access to the bottom of the console, where the plug-in is)... I think that this is just part of the latch mechanism, and doesn't really enter the bottom of the console.

EDIT: Oh yeah, the flash really pics up a lot of 'stuff' on black.

light, about time you joined the fun. any hypothesis on the Notch change?

I'm predicting that assembly of 05s will end earlier this year due to your statement on changes. Of course I see the 06 release as flexible
depending on the quanity of 05s remaining and whenever the
competition and/or 35th Z are to debut.

I think it will be a sad day on the Org if 25th is downplayed, and there's not even a badge to show for it.
-----------
oh yeah duh, thanks Monotaur. yeah, that's my fault. the hole is for the latch
sorry, guess if you're Notchless... sucks to be you.
********
oh my, oh my! I just realized, i have the trap door too.
I totally forgot or never knew it.
just went out and saw it. this will make it easier for my cell plug!

okay so all we're left with is that the notch was added somewhere between
6/03 and 9/03

Yeah, I didn't know I had it either until I saw the other picture and checked - it was so well hidden!

It would be interesting to have some others with a 9/03 build date post as to whether or not they have a notch, and also some 7/03's, 8/03's, etc...

Ya know, since none of yall use the notch anyway, im sure some of you envy my 'shaved' notch. Gives the armrest a 'clean' look. My cell holds a charge forever and is rarely plugged in anyway, i suppose if I had a phone that required it to be plugged in, like some old school carphone, id be pretty bummed out. Notchless and proud of it.

well if that really makes you feel better. u know the Notch has nothing to do with powering. I use it to feed my earpiece to my phone.

besides that, I see no use for it. b/c where would you sit the phone? I suppose the cup holder, but just use the second outlet.

shaved, that was a good one
