My '05 SL is starting to make strange sounds
I've got 950 miles on my '05 SL and the following things have started to appear already. When I start the car up it sounds like some kind of a groaning noise coming from I think the power steering. As soon as I make a left turn I hear it and then it goes away after the car warms up. I had this happen on my '02 GLE but it only did that when it was sub below zero.
I pulled up to the drive up mail drop with the window opne and heard this metallic ticking sound coming from one of the wheels. I never noticed before becuase I keep the windows up. When the fan is on level 3 it makes this harmonic sound that is at just the right frequency to bother me. I never noticed this before. then, I get the sterring wheel shimmy right @ 60 MPH, but not all the time only sometimes. It feels to me it's the steering, not the tires. When I got my '02 new I drove it for three years without a single issues. This has got me nervous.
I am bringing the car back for a 1000 mi check-up. Is checking this kind of stuff out part of it?

The shimmy has happened to almost all of us. I still have it in my '04 17k later. I noticed checking the tire pressure helps alot with it. The ticking noise will in turn go away. Someone at one point said it was a cotter pin or something of that nature on the caliper. I had the same thing and mine just went away. The other noises though.....I'm not sure about. Hopefully someone else here can help. Tell your dealer about every problem you have whether it's under the 1k maintenance or not. That's what the warranty is for. Good luck
When I think of it, I have had the shimmy on all of my Nissans, I had a 2000 Pathfinder.. Shimmy @ 60 mph, my 02 Max.. shimmy @ 60mph. My wife has a '97 Escort. No shimmy @ 60mph. What gives?
Cotter pin? Sound went away? Maybe the pin fell out

playing kinda loud. well...at about 5000 miles, I noticed the harmonic sound.
it wasn't that loud, but it really did bother me. so i took it to the dealer. they
replaced the blowing fan motor or something like that...and I think it's gone
after that.
what was going on with that squeek from the front left wheel in my case was indeed a cotter pin...or that's what was on my paperwork...so I assume that is what the problem was and it was fixed easily. I hate to hear that the 05 is turning out to be not too much better than the 04.
This shimmy issue concerns me. I have yet to notice it, however I don't drive too often at 50-60 MPH it's usually above or below that speed.
As far as the power steering making noise I notice some whining from the car for the first few min of driving. I think things need to warm up a little bit and then sounds start to go away. If you think the maxima is bad you should drive a buick lasabre. Those are notorious for their whine.
I hope that your service department is good and that the manager is cool. Most service managers are sick and tired of hearing the same complaints over and over from customers. Now that Nissan hit their 1 Million mark hopefully their focus will drift from sales to customer service and quality products. I doubt it though.
