All Fogged Up !!!
All Fogged Up !!!
oK so summer is approaching, and driving around in 75 degree weather or more my windshield EVERYTIME seems to fog up. I turn on the Heat and the windshield gets even foggier, I turn on the AC and water builds up near the bottom and a little less fog at the top. I do this with my windows down and tried it with them up and no difference. I know this is prob a repost but I just wanna know what you guys do. I cant drive around not seeing a thing. I taking the Max in monday for bad struts, Ill bring it up to them but just wanna know from you more experience guys.
I have NEVER had a problem with fog before in this car. Once in a blue moon does any condensation appear anywhere, and if it does its weather related and easilly removed by the fans. Probobly because its always running the A/C to take the moisture out of the air. Take it on.
I used to have that problem occasionally as well, condensation builds up on the outside of the windshield causing me to use the wipers...only for it to come back a little later. However if you turn on the ac and turn up the temperature to upper 70s to make the air more dry, the condesation goes away.
if it is condensing that bad you have a bigger problem than what appears. I would check your cooling system for leaks. Possibly there is a small leak in the heater core allowing coolant to condense on the windshield. Check the drainage for the a/c to make sure it isn't collecting water.
Silver, yoyu live near me so its the same climate and everything...I just leave the thing on auto and the air is pretty much always on, well, the light is atleast. My taurus fogged up more than this car, and more often. Weird.
I get this too if the humidity is high at night. If have the windows down on a 70 degree night the windshield will fog. I can cut the front defroster on but I have to roll up the windows for it to work. This only happens on humid nights though.
I get the fogging as well, but in the Mississippi summer, Biloxi, almost 85 degrees at 0530 hrs in the morning.....nothing helps with damn near 90% humidity. I would think NY would be a bit better as far as the humidity. Out here, if I crack the window...it is fogged up window hell. Every morning, most cars out here are running their window wipers because all the windshields fog up. The HVAC is also overtasked with high humidity trying to take the moisture out of the air so makes the air blow warmer in the AM hours. When it gets hotter during the day, the AC works better. With low humidity...the AC will freeze your butt off. I have never found a happy medium....but this is the south and to be expected with the humidity. My car looks like it is peeing every day with the condenser and evap dripping alot. All is normal though. You have to mess with the settings. For me, I take it off manual and blow the AC on max fan. The only thing I can do on high humidity days. Keep the windows closed also. At least this is what has worked for me. Hope this kinda helps. Mess with the settings and do WHAT WORKS BEST FOR YOU....we all live in different areas.
I was getting the same thing during lunch last night with the humid weather lately. This was at 3am so the temp was actually low 70's, but still very humid and still out. windows down, and defrost on 83 work best. I started with the usual 75 auto, when the windows were fogging, I put it on defrost which formed the condensation outside, so I just put down the windows and bumped up the temp a couple degrees a few mins at a time untill the windshield stayed clear, which I got up to 83 before that happened.
BTW - you see the airshow this weekend? I just got back from Rochester a few days ago dropping off the Thunderbirds there. It was hotter in Rochester then it was here in Jersey and over in Las Vegas where we picked them up.

Air Leak?
On a previous vehicle I had this exact same issue and couldn't figure out why, until the day I remembered that it only started happening after a windshield replaced 2 years earlier. I took the car to the people who did the windshield because they have a lifetime warranty and they discovered there was an airleak in the windshield. While trying to reseal it, they accidentally broke the windsheild and had to replace it, hence sealing the crap out of it. Problem solved. This may not be your issue but sounds exactly like what I was experiencing.
SilverSL,
have you "fixed" it yet? Since it's past a year, I'm getting close to 15k and had today off, I decided to change the in-cabin micro filter. Lo and behold, in the dierections, it states:
"If, within the 15,000-mile period, the airflow is extremely decreased or if windows fog up easily during operation of the heater or air conditioning, the microfilter should be replaced."
Now, w/ the recent threads about reduced performanced, I paid close attention to my A/C output. It would still get as cold, kinda, and i wondered if it was blowing less...
Well popped in a new one and right away lots of ice cold air came out.
My old one was half gray with small leaves here and there. Not sure why I didn't think of this before for you guys with problems.
