external oil cooler?

i am thinking of doing this, and was just wondering if it would be worth it. has anyone else done this yet. if so could you provide a write up as to how to go about it. i just want to keep the engine temp down.

won't do much for engine temperature, but will make the oil work at it's recommended viscosity, especially if you're driving in hot climates.

i had one on my old mgb (which notoriously ran hot in the summer). i can't imagine it would be worth the time effort or money on a new computer controlled engine.

The VQ35DE does not need an external oil cooler. It already has a heat exchanger at the oil filter. If you drop the oil operating temperature too much it won't properly lubricate the engine. Yes there is such a thing as the oil temperature being too low.

Although I am not saying that adding a cooler is a bad thing to do, it's just a waste of time and money for 99% of the circumstances.

so you could not use the same part# for this. i do not mean use both at the same time. i was just saying i dont think you need to buy a tranny specific cooler.

No, because an oil cooler is very small, whereas a transmission cooler is quite a bit larger. Were you to use an oil cooler for a tranny, the benefits would be negligible. Were you to use a tranny cooler for oil, you would overcool the oil and it would start to foam.
