I assume you're looking to get the compression on the piston compression? If so you can rent or purchase a guage. Cost is about $26.00

All you need to do is remove a spark plug, insert one end of this guague in the sparkplug hole, and crank the engine. There ya go... a reading in PSI. You will need to know is what your compression should be, and that I don't know off the top of my head.

Good luck,

Are you talking static? If so, that's very simple and will probably be done at the shop minimum.

A leak down test will be more expensive of course.

Here is a good site on some info about those. BTW, why are you worried about this with an 04 Maxima?

its is called preventive maintenance. i just want to make sure. lets say i bought the car and the compression was already out of wack. then i would probably assume this is normal and never check. also i will be able to establish a base line and know what i should or was at if something goes wrong.

Yes you have to remove the upper collector for access to the rear bank.

you would have leaks if it was out of whack..from your gaskets mainly head gaskets...i have taken my snowmobile eng apart many times for various reasons...trust me unless you got a bad batch of gaskets in thier, i wouldnt worry about compression,...waste of $$ to check it. You would see oil leaking.
