My brush with a retread tire
While driving thru Ga. on the way to Fl. a truck sent a large piece of a retread tire in front of me. I could not sway away and ran over it. My bumper was messed up, corning light fell off, bottom grill fell off and was bent amd other items were messed up. I was not the only car that was messed up.. The trooper filled out a report and I called my insurance company. I will have it fixed when I get home. Warren

Damn Ramberg, that sucks big time!!! Were you interested in that new Redline frontend? If so, this could work out just right for you. If not, we'll get you fixed up and winning trphies in no time. Good luck, keep us posted on your progress. Don't let it ruin your trip, drink more beer and smoke more cigars. Sorry to see a sweet Max get messed up.
damn Warren... that sux... I drive trucks and I see this all the time.. infact going to the NJ meet, a truck blew a tire and hit the mercedes beside me... I try not to drive anywhere near a truck cause of this same reason...
hope you fix it soon.....

You don't want to cruise next to a truck or you may get the same treatment as the Mercedes mentioned above. Comparably, you should try not to be following a truck too close for a long period of time. I know this does not work if you want to pass him when it is safe, or if you are in bumper to bumper traffic. But that is just good advice -- stay away from the big trucks.

Ouch. That is awful. I agree with BadBlackMaxSL, this would be a good time to get the Redline bumper if you're interested.
I had a crazy experience with a truck on my way to North Carolina on Friday. I was coming up on his left side to go ahead and pass when the truck cuts over into my lane without signaling and with less than a half of a car length to spare. Well, in the process of doing this he slowed down too. I slammed on the brakes (thank god for ABS) but I was still getting closer. I ended up swerving off the road onto the shoulder and into some grass before I could stop the car. I really dislike some truckers. If I had been just riding in the truck's blind spot for a while I could understand better. However, this wasn't the case.

'Gator bit'; You were 'bitten' by a 'gator'. That's what they call treads thrown off truck tires. If you look at one 'tread-side-up' lying beside the road, you will see where the name 'gator' comes from.
They are more prevalent on Southern highways because of a hotter climate and higher speeds than in the northeast, and more renegade truckers running cheaper tires than out west.
I had a friend hit one lying in the middle of his lane (he had been driving too closely behind a truck), rolling it up underneath his car (fortunately not a Maxima) and, among other things, he had to have most of his exhaust system replaced.
I realize ramberg's car can be fixed after he returns home, but driving a wrecked car for another several thousand miles really takes the fun out of a trip; especially when the car was so special and so beautiful.
My sincere sympathy.

Yo Warren, sorry to hear about that. It happens to everyone so don't feel bad. Also, it really doesn't look that bad! Just get yourself another NEW MOD and you'll forget it ever happened. That last guy is right, the tire treads are everywhere down here in the South, especially this time of year. There should be some type of national semi-tire tread liability fund that automatically pays for your damage if you can show that it was caused by a worn out tread, etc... that way you don't even have to mess with your insurance. No, that would be a perfect world. Good luck and sorry again! PEACE.........

I want to thank you guys for your comments. I am having a great time down here in Fl. with my new granddaughter. On the redlinemax bumper, I have to see the final product. Thanks again Warren
Damn bro that sucks, you always gotta watch out with big trucks. My told me the other day he was driving on the X-pressway and he came up to traffic and the tractor trailer next to him tried to stop and started skidding and my dad was next to the tires on the trailer in the back. He said he got so scared because he thought the trailer would slide to his side. Also during the winter I was driving and the snow came off the top of a tractor trailer and landed right in front of my car, if I landed on the car I wouldn't be able to see ****.
It could be worse ya know... a lot worse...

That's nasty ramberg. At least it's only the bumper. I had my rear bumper repaired and repainted after someone backed into my Max at work and it only cost $AUD380. Good job too - can't tell it was repaired and much cheaper than replacement bumper.
I try to stay away from trucks to avoid the stones that they kick up (I've got plenty of stone chips on the front bumper and bonnet thanks to them) but seeing your damage will make me stay even further away from them!

Finally came back from my road trips and had the bumper repaired. Just have to buy new lower grille. Its a lttle bent. They took off the decals which is OK since I took most them off the car anyway.

Looks great... I had the same thing happen on the other side. Took a chunk of the driver's side wheel well and a piece of the bumper, but otherwise it was all good. The cornering light was dirty but it still worked...

I was tired of driving my wife's car.
Going to Philly on Sunday for a Maxima meet and next Sunday going to Long Island for nycmaxima's end of the summer meet. So far over 45 different year Maxima's will be in the caravan. I can't wait.

Its not against the law but it should be. My adjuster says it happens alot and that I can't even sue the State of Ga. for damages. A car that was 2 cars behind me had its grill and headlights broken.
