Windshield cracked

So, I am driving from NC to NY on 295 North. No cars infront of me, nice and empty. All of a sudden I hear a pop and a run in my windhsield on passanger side. Out of the blue. It had to have a chip on the edge or rubbing against some metal on the pillar. Anybody had a similar problem with 6th gen?
My car is made on May 06, 2005.

As I recall, others have had some issues with 'stress cracks' forming from an improperly installed windshield. For some reason, I'm thinking that this is covered under Nissan's warranty (but I'm not sure how they would determine it was from an improper installation or glass fit as opposed to a crack from road debris).

Either way, good luck. If you wind up being responsible for the glass, the OEM glass shouldn't be more than $180 or so.

You can tell right away. I have been working with glass for many years. There is no trace of anything hitting the glass anywhere. The run came from the edge of the glass under the molding. I better not be responsible.
Plus, chernmax said the new one was on him so I shouldnt worry.

Sorry to hear that. That must have been me passing you so fast that you didn't see me. I was on 295 last night coming home from Florida. Take it to the dealer.

Yeah, the fact that it comes from the edge to me seems congruent to what others have said of these types of stress fractures... I can't recall exactly when, but there was someone here who had this happen to them recently... turns out it was replaced under warranty.

Since your car was made in early May of 2005, you should be well within your 1 year/12,000 mile 'wearables' warranty (unless you've been driving a LOT...). I'd take it to the dealer and talk to them.

If the crack was as a result of being struck by a hard object, very close examination should show an 'impact point', with the crack radiating out from there.

If there is no impact point, and the crack runs from the edge of the glass, The glass was probably not struck by anything. In such case, either the glass was defective, the car frame was not in true alignment, or the installation was improperly done. A good dealer will replace this glass at no charge.

They better replace it under warranty.
As a matter of ofact I work in a glass business for many years and I have to say, I was looking at the edges of the glass in the doors and the edges are finished rather poorly. They are just roughly seamed. In my old i30 craftsmanship was a lot better.

I hear ya man. I had to go and tell them that I have a great expertise in glass cuz offcourse they told my wife that a small pebble hit the glass on the opposite side and thats what caused that crack. Dumb asses. On the other hand as long as they are doing it under warranty I don't mind putting htem in place every once in a while.
BTW Tek I saw your ride on CE meet. Nice.

I would go fix it before you have to change the whole thing. Happened to me also. I heard if you put crazy glue in the chip it can help. But I'd rather go to a glass shop and fix the chip.

Driving on the 495 East bound and a small pebble hit the top of the windshield, same thing happened. Fortunately, I have full glass. They fixed it in my drive way. LOL.
