NAVI Owners

i happen to be reading that the new 06 max has a upgraded nav screen as well as the software. seems to be very different then our 04/05. the way the nav maps look and how you navigate around the options. anyone looked into what it would take to swap them out. meaning is it just the screen, maybe the dvd , or is it complicated like the ECU or something like that.

I know you need different software version for 04-05 versus the 06, so I would assume the firmware insdie the unit is different too.

what do you think we would need to make this happen in our 04/05... it can only be either the screen (which they say is upgraded) or the dvd player or dvd it self.

One of the easiest ways to tell is if a 06 owner with a NAVI, tell us what his NAVI software version is? I know their is an updated 04 Nav DVD, however I thought that just updated the maps and key area locations, not the function, features or how it operates. Last, if the NAVI was different, you would think Nissan would have advertised the change when the new 06 was released. Just a thought...

its definitly a 06 change, i have the list right from the nissan dealership on the updates for 06 as well as the things you cannot get with the 06 that you could with the 04 05.

PLEASE 06 OWNERS GET US THE VERSION ON YOUR NAV DISC

or i guess ill have to talk to the nissan dealership and see if i can take one of the 06 max's out for a test drive solo and pop the nav disc out and put it in my max and see what it does.

Not to hijack the thread, but what options or equipment did they drop on the '06?

I would like to find out about any upgrades ect. on the Navi.. i need a new updated CD bad because Jacksonville, FL has so many new roads I ride in open space on my navi all the time... what is the point if your navi just tells you that you are in open space with no roads. Can't get directions that way! I want my $2000 back for this option if it is not going to work right.. hehehehe@

a colleague just purchased the upgrade disk for $190, I believe. She has an 04 SL. She didn't like the current version as most of you have all ready stated. I'll have to ask her how she likes it when it arrives.

Anything is burnable with the right software and I believe the DVD Nav is a double layer DVD so you need to be able to burn that. This question has been brought up before and I believe the consensus was, the risk wasn't worth it (I agree) and the Org won't support it (I also agree), so get up on ebay, suck it up and buy a license copy....

Go on ebay, prices are 50-90 dollars cheaper than the stealership, also, I know you where just asking plus if someone did give me a great deal for one, I wouldn't turn it down... I just wouldn't use this open forum to ask about it.

You are correct. I made a backup image of my DVD due to the prices, even though it's outdated (6.1), and intended on actually using the copy in the car. The disc is 8gigs though, def dual layer, and I dont have dual layer blanks. Therefore I never did get past actually making an image to burn.

Anybody correct me if I'm wrong, but I've heard that upgrading is not easy or worth the time or $$. In addition to having to purchase a new screen, DVD ROM drive, and the buttons to operate the NAVI system, you would need to change out the ECU and wiring harnesses.

My colleague got her new disk in on her 04 SL. The birdseye view is nice but she doesn't seem to think the upgrade is worth it. Then again, she doesn't use the Navi that much. I played around with a little tonight. It does not do the split screen like the 06 has in their advertisement photos. Only views are the birdseye and the "regular" street view.

As for the other options, not too sure on what was improved vs the old version. I'll try to get the upgrade info from her. It should specify what is changed with this new release.

The biggest and most useful improvement is the updates for all the new roads, bridges, bypasses in every major city in the US in the last several years that were added to the software. Not a lot of bells & whistles, however improved/more accurate directions is still worth the cost...

bad news, went to nissan today, talked to my buddy... we took the ver.7.1 disc out of the 06 max and put it in my 05, all it did was give new roads and things like that, the graphics were the same, the grafics on the 06 are soooooooooooooooooo much nicer. couple different options, if its the dvd unit that houses the disc and might be the brain for the unit thats over 2k bucks from clarion through nissan. but we checked my born date on my dvd unit and its a newer unit so thats not the case. now the 06 has a new screen.......... could that be is, i doubt it but someone has to check into this. the screen is plug and play so it would be a simple upgrade but that cants be it. HELP...................

06 NAVI info confirmed

well, i do hope i am not reposting but if i am sorry, i have been mad busy and had not time to really look in depth to see if anyone found out this before i did...

the 2006 navigation dvd does NOT work on the 2005 dvd reader...nope...tried this myself at the dealer and no luck, the dvd reader will not read the 2006 dvd. sucks... the 2006 navigation screens are mad nice, very very attractive ...the only thing i didnt like is the letters, they seem to be a little fuzzy but that is something i could live with if i could get that look of split screens/nice colored menu options/ amazing radio screen/ and display in general...

in my opinion is the dvd reader has software in it and will not accept the new dvd.

now...i would like to see if anyone could check or investigate on this: could the whole unit, i mean, radio, cd changer, dvd reader, ac control...u get the idea, the whole middle unit, could it be swap ?? from a 2006 to a 2005 ??

in conclusion, i think it is not worth the extra 10000 in price for a 2006 just becasue it has bluetooth, iluminated steering wheel controls and a nice looking interface/dvd software in it... everything else is just the same... but $10000 more !! ill keep the 2005...

if u swap to an 05 with oem navi already, very possibly. but for all that work and cost, why not a decent aftermarket setup? then you won't be limited to Nissan updates/prices.

I bet you'd be just almost close to cost of swapping an 05 for 06. you can rationalize the extra $$ to cover all the work and upgrades you mentioned, plus new odo! If I wanted those few features as much as you seem to, I may consider it. Personally, I felt saving $2k well worth not having navi. Go ahead and trade up, you'll help my stock a bit too, so we all win!!!

only thing that has to be swapped is the dvd reader and or nav module. the dvd screen doesnt need to be changed to support the new graphics. Also the new navi disc 7.1 can be purchased from Zernin or however thats spelled. im gonna check into what needs to be swapped to make this all happen. If a search was done you will see i started a thread on this already. can check what people had to say in there.

I am certain that the 04-05 Max will not support the 7.1 DVD NAVI version map software, for our model the available upgrade is version 6.4 available at www.zenrin.com/nissan/DVD

Looking at the big picture on my use of my Max DVD Nav for the last 2+ years, directions is all I need and an accurate map, 6.4 does that, so IMO any conversion to support a 7.1 is a waste of $$$$$

Dude, if you want better graphics and capabilities, invest in an Xbox 360 and figure out how to install that in your Max. Be a hell of a lot more interesting then just a boring updated street map picture. Probably be cheaper too???

Zenrin Ver.6.4 Disk

In responce to the 06 Nav. disk, I believe it is the version 6.4. This disk which is available from Zenrin comes with a CD to upgrade the system to use the 6.4 DVD. There has been 2 of them on sale on E-Bay. There are pictures of the 2 disk set there. The one on sale now has the bidding up to around $195. The Zenrin web site has the 6.4 for $190 and free shipping until the end of December. It says it is for the 94 & 95 maximas, Etc. I don't know the exact Zenrin URL, but if you Google zenrin you should get it. I hope this helps.
