Factory Ecu
Factory Ecu
I Remember Reading In The Intake Part 2 Thread, There Was The Concern About Factory Ecu's Overriding The Upgrades That Are Associated With Intakes Etc. I Was Wondering If This Has Been Proven Wrong Or Rite Yet. And If It Is In Fact Rite, What Are The Options To Fixing This Without The Obvious Sending My Ecu Out And Having It Reprogramed.

the ecu seems to reject the timing advance, this has to do with the firing order in the engine for better acceleration and such..

What is the stock number?
I had question about my ‘05 Max that might be related to this thread, specifically the ECU. I noticed that after I drive my car “casually” for a day or more, the first time I floor it and bring it close to redline, I see a huge amount of smoke come out the tail pipes. Once I clear it out, it no longer smokes. By smoke, I think I see carbon. I am very certain it is not oil.
In a different thread (which I couldn’t find) I believe someone wrote that Nissan intentionally makes the engines run rich for the first 10,000 miles. My car has 4,000 miles.
Has anyone else experienced this “blow-out” smoke? Can anyone confirm the rich setting for the first 10,000 miles? Is this normal, or should I have the dealer address the issue? Thanks in advance for anyone’s help.

just let it break in..
not exactly the reply i shot for with this thread, but no i floor my car quite often with 2500 k miles on it, never noticed any smoke. Ill be sure to ask my friend with an 05 accord coupe though if he has noticed any, hes usually lookin at the back of my car anyway ;D
Teq-niq, thank you. Logik05se, funny comment about the Honda.
Logik05se, when my car had 2500 miles, I don't believe it had any smoke yet. At 3,500 miles, a little smoke became visible, mostly at night when back-lit by head lights. In the last 300 miles, it seems to have gotten worse. I can now see smoke clearly in daylight.
I am far from a mechanic, but it behaves like its plugs are getting fouled. (I only say that because I constantly dealt with that problem on a high mileage 1970 Z28.)
For the last two days, I noticed a very light vibration at idle. I also noticed that the car didn't seem to accept the fuel as smoothly when I shifted gears, sort of like its rhythm was thrown off. After I floored it and cleared it out, the vibration was gone and it accepted fuel beautifully again. I guess my car likes to be driven hard.
It just struck me as odd that our computer controlled, super intelligent cars would ever run rich. But it seems that it is, which is consistent with that other person's 10,000 mile comment.
I appreciate your comments. If your Accord buddy has any input, let me know. If anyone else reading this has any thoughts, let me know. Thanks.
