After 800 miles....

After two weeks and 800 miles, I am so far very pleased to have purchased
another Maxima. My 96SE has 215k miles and was getting too expensive to maintain. First of all, I was quite surprised that full coverage insurance on the 06 was just a little more than just liability on the 96. I guess the new standard safety and security features add a lot of deductions.

The first week took some time to get use to the car because of its larger size.
It was like driving an SUV compared to my lowered 96. One thing for sure is
that I will not lower this car. The ride was just too harsh and I bottomed out many times with the set up I have on the 96. I haven't stepped on it yet, but I know the 3.5 definitely has what it takes to backup all of those TV commercials. Switching lane now is a breeze. However, it was too much lean during high speed cornering so I've upgraded to Cattman's RSB. Is it the fact that I'm now driving a faster car and not not feeling it or braking is worse when you go up in wheel size? I felt that braking with 15" on my 96 seem better. Maintenance cost on tires will now be more costly for me. Since I drive close to 24k miles a year, it will add up. It use to cost me $350 to place all four tires on the 96, but now it may cost $800 for the 18". Another thing I have to get use to is the rear view of the car. Since the rear is higher up and window is shorter, they contribute to blind spots. Consumer Reports claimed that if you place a cone in rear, you won't see it until 12 feet away. The rear head rests also obstruct the bottom view of the rear view mirror. A Nissan mechanic told me that the older generation Maximas
were made in Japan so the time spent on the ship crossing salt water has contributed to the rust and fade in paint.

Even though I have purchased the car with no options, I am very satisfied with what is offered by the standard package. Overall, it's money well spent.

Congrats, I bought an ONYN 06 on Sept 19 and have 2600 miles, sweet car but still I don't find the power off the line that great, I know it's their but it's smooth compared to my other cars, highway speed is excellent, many times I have found myself doing 80-100 on my commute home, the speed in this car just creeps up on you

My only concerns with the car are the paint, my black is getting plenty of chips, partly thanks to the NYS Thurway being repaved, nothing like getting on in the morning to get passed by a van and see all the loose crap come flying at me.

The other concern is the fuzzy wheel wells, did Nissan use interior parts on the outside of the car, those rear wheels look weird with the fabric lining

man where are you getting your tires? I always go to hole in the wall places in old town, near my hometown. They are reputable places, but don’t charge big $$ for tires, balancing, and mounting.. you can get them on Ebay for less as well.. Always do a search, and if you cant find them, let me know and i can help..

As for your car, congrats.. I am new to Maximas and have never owned one before this. My brother owned a G35 and that was pretty sweet, and he had owned other Nissans before this. Now he drives an 05/06 Nissan Xterra.. I think Nissan makes great vehicles, even though their design team needs a swift kick in the head. They could make the cars look a little better i think. But all in all i love my Car, Love the POWER, and the experience so far is DEAD ON....

so good luck, in your daily drives...

I concur with your observation about the car leaning on corners. I've considered a rear sway bar and a front strut tower bar, but I wish I had a way to do some kind of comparison before making the purchase(s). As for the rear view, I noticed the restriction when I first sat in the driver's seat at the dealership. I suppose I have gotten used to it, but there is no escaping that the view to the rear of the car is restricted compared to many other vehicles. I'm glad you are pleased with your car. I drive about 24K miles a year too. My car has about 23K on it now and have had no problems.
