Painting brake calipers

Couple of questions:
1: There appear to be two classes of materials available: exopy based, brush on paint and engine block spray paint. The former costs a bit more but the latter seems to require more effort (masking, etc). Question - Which method produces the better result?

2: I plan to paint the calipers when I replace my brakes/rotors. Questions: Should the painting be done with the pads installed? If yes, I assume that I should replace the pads after painting incase of any slop?

3: (Not really a question - more of an opnion poll kinda thing...) For a 2004 blue Maxima, what color would you paint the caliper? I do not want them to be guady and stick out, but I do want to kick them up a notch. (Do I need to send Emeril $0.10 for using hsi phrase?)

Thanks!

I used the G2 BRAKE Caliper PaintSystem (brush on) I went with Silver so as to not stand too much either.

I painted mine with the G2 Paint and with the pads on and had no problems.
As far as color, Silver would look nice on Blue.

G2 paint also.

For a blue car, I recommend Silver, Blue or Red (in that order)

I think red looks a little more professional, however the advice is really just based off my own taste.

Your silver would be brighter however this is an example.

If you go dark blue, consider white, yellow or gold lettering. Just my opinion.

I have had mine on for a short while and no problem. Others on the Org referred me to the site and theirs still look great. I assume since the company makes them for brake calipers they are designed to withstand the heat. I think you'll be just fine and the price is right. Good Luck.

Mine are just a couple quick coats of black DHT I believe it was, in a spraycan. I wanted to cover the rust and stuff....It works fine and mine is in a brutal salty environment....I wouldnt split hairs over how to paint them, they are going to get filthy and stained anyway from the dust...hence the black. I think red looks crappy on oem brakes bc it makes them look small (sry guys)

I picked up the brush-on Duplicolor Caliper Paint Kit for $14.99 @ PepBoys. I'll be painting them Silver this weekend and will post pics. Might do the Pathfinder too.

BTW: While everything is off, I might as well replace the pads. Any recommendations on which type of pad to buy? Thanks!

If you can wait, you could pick up a set of PBRs from Andy (automax_95) through that GD that he has going... Should help with stopping power and keep the dust down as well.

Heres a pic of mine, I just used some high temp paint and a clearcoat from a local autoparts store. I friend helped me out with them and he used his buffer and cleaned the surface good so the paint would stick. We cleaned the brakes with carb cleaner before painting as well.

Well I've always loved the look of the Gold Brembos on black G35s so if I had a black car id definately do gold.

I just bought my Max a little over a month ago. I was thinking about powder coating my calipers -- does anyone know if that works/is a good idea?

Also (I'm a newbie) what is G2 Paint? Where can I get it?

Gerry, for your blue Max, you should consider painting your calipers that burnt ember orange that the Brembos on the Z cars come in. It might look nice with the blue.

I used Duplicolor and I have a thread on here somewhere. Yes you do have to get rid of the rust. To do this job right, I sanded the metal areas relatively smooth, but not too smooth, and then primed, painted and clear coated, all with high temp paints that are compatible. i finished it off with high temp lettering and cleared over that. Here are the results:
